4 iPhone Home and Lock Screen TIPS with iOS 18! Try them today!

Unlocking the New Home Screen Features in iOS 18: A Guide for Seniors

Hello everyone, Dan Wassink here. Today, I’m excited to explore the fantastic new home screen features available on the iPhone with iOS 18. Whether you’re a seasoned iPhone user or just starting out, these new tools will make customizing your home screen more intuitive and enjoyable. Let’s dive right in!

Flexible App Icon Placement

One of the most exciting new features in iOS 18 is the flexible app icon placement. This means you can now rearrange your apps anywhere you want on your home screen. No more being forced to fill up the upper left-hand corner. Here’s how it works:

  1. Enter Jiggle Mode: Tap and hold anywhere on the home screen where there are no apps. Your apps will start to wiggle.
  2. Move Your Apps: Simply drag the app to wherever you want it to be. For instance, if you want your camera app at the bottom, just drag it down.
  3. Create Blank Spots: You can now leave blank spots on your home screen for a cleaner look or to make your favorite apps more accessible.

You’ll find this especially useful if you have a larger iPhone, as it allows you to move your most-used apps to a more reachable spot.

Resizing App Icons

Another great feature in iOS 18 is the ability to resize app icons. You can turn your app icons into widgets, making them larger and more informative. Here’s how:

  1. Select an App Icon: Tap and hold on the app icon you want to resize.
  2. Choose a Size: You’ll see options at the top of the screen to select different sizes. Pick the one that suits you best.
  3. Edit Widgets: If the app icon turns into a widget, you can further customize it by tapping and holding on it and selecting “Edit Widget.”

For example, you can turn your clock app into a larger widget that displays the time more prominently, or make your calendar app show more detailed schedule information.

Locking and Hiding Apps

Privacy is important, and iOS 18 makes it easier to keep your apps secure. You can now lock and hide apps using Face ID. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Lock an App: Tap and hold on the app you want to lock. Select “Require Face ID.” Now, only your face can unlock this app.
  2. Hide an App: For some third-party apps, you also have the option to hide them. Tap and hold, then select “Hide and Require Face ID.” The app will move to a hidden folder in your app library.

To find your hidden apps, swipe over to your app library and look for the “Hidden” folder. Only you can open this folder with Face ID.

Customizing Lock Screen Icons

iOS 18 also lets you customize the icons on your lock screen. If you prefer a different camera app, like Halid, you can replace the default camera icon. Here’s how:

  1. Customize Lock Screen: Tap and hold on your lock screen to enter customization mode.
  2. Remove Existing Icons: Tap the minus sign next to the camera or flashlight icon.
  3. Add New Icons: Tap the plus sign and select the app you want to add. Now, you can access your preferred camera app right from the lock screen.

Summary

These new features in iOS 18 make your iPhone more flexible and secure. You can now arrange your apps just the way you like them, resize icons to make them more useful, lock and hide apps for added privacy, and customize your lock screen icons to suit your needs.

I hope you find these tips helpful. Remember, the goal is to make your iPhone experience as enjoyable and personalized as possible. Happy customizing!
