Airdrop Files to Others on your iPhone

Introduction

AirDrop allows you to send files directly from your iPhone to another Apple device nearby, such as an iPad or Mac. The file appears almost instantly on the other device, making it a fast and convenient way to share content without email, messages, or cloud storage.

Share a File Using AirDrop

To get started, open an app that contains the file you want to share. In the example shown in the video, the Files app is used, but AirDrop works in most apps that support sharing.

Once you find the file:

  1. Long press on the file.
  2. Tap the Share button.
3. Select AirDrop from the sharing options.

After tapping AirDrop, nearby Apple devices connected to your Apple account or available for sharing will appear on the screen. You can then select the device you want to send the file to.

For example, sending a screenshot to an iPad automatically opens it in the Photos app on the receiving device.

AirDrop also works with documents. In the video, a Pages document is shared from the iPhone to the iPad. After selecting AirDrop and choosing the iPad, the document opens directly inside the Pages app on the iPad.

This is especially useful if you regularly move files between Apple devices. Screenshots, photos, PDFs, and documents can all be transferred quickly without cables or attachments.

AirDrop Settings

AirDrop includes a few settings that control who can send files to your iPhone. To find these settings:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select AirDrop.

Inside the AirDrop settings, you can choose from several options:

  • Receiving Off – Your device will not appear for AirDrop transfers.
  • Contacts Only – Only people in your contacts can send files to you.
  • Everyone for 10 Minutes – Any nearby Apple device can AirDrop files to you temporarily.

The tutorial recommends using Contacts Only for better security. This keeps your device visible only to people you know.

If you need to share with someone who is not in your contacts, you can temporarily switch to Everyone for 10 Minutes. After 10 minutes, the setting automatically turns off for added privacy.

Another helpful feature allows you to start sharing simply by bringing two devices close together. You can also allow AirDrop to use cellular data when devices are out of range.

These settings make AirDrop flexible while still giving you control over privacy and security.

Wrap Up

AirDrop is a fast and simple way to share files between Apple devices. Anytime you see the Share button in an app, there’s a good chance you can use AirDrop to send that file.

If a device does not appear when trying to share, check the AirDrop settings on the receiving device and make sure AirDrop is enabled. Adding people to your contacts can also make sharing smoother and more secure.

Once you start using AirDrop regularly, it quickly becomes one of the most convenient features in the Apple ecosystem for moving files between devices.
