Multi-stop Routing and Scheduled Times in the Maps app with iOS 16
Learn how to add multiple stops to a route, and see traffic based on when you leave or arrive, with Maps on the iPhone and iOS 16.
Apple added mutli-stop routing to the Maps app with iOS 16! You can now add multiple stops in a route. You can also set when you want to leave or arrive, and the Maps app will predict travel time based on estimated traffic. See how to add multiple stops and set the time you’d like to leave or arrive in this video for Maps on the iPhone with iOS 16.
Video TranscriptionIn this video, we’re going to look at what’s new with the Maps app on the iPhone with iOS 16. We’re specifically going to look at multi stop routing, and how you can schedule routes. And when you schedule a route, what it’ll do is it’ll give you a time based on traffic predictions. Let’s see what I mean. Let’s go over to my iPhone. So I’m looking at my iPhone, let’s go and open up the Maps app. Let’s first look at multi stop routing. What we’re able to do now is add multiple stops. I live in Holland, Michigan, and let’s I’m going up to Mac and our city. So Holland is down here, this is where I met. And I’m going to route up to Mac in our city. So I just type in here, search map and just type in here Makena city. I get directions. And we can see that we have directions there.
But now what I want to do is I also want to go to Traverse City Traverse City is located over here. So now what I need to do is add another stop. Well, this is what we can do with iOS 16. In order to do that, all I do is just go over to add stop. And then I type in Traverse City. And now we can see it’s going from my location to McEnroe city to Traverse City. Well, that’s backwards of what I want. What I’d like to do is go to Traverse City, and then Mac in our city. So how do we change this order around? Well, basically, all I have to do is just go over to these three lines here, I drag them up. And now it’s going to reroute me through Traverse City. Now I mentioned that we can also add a time in here you’re going to see it says Now what I’m able to do is add a time and it will change the travel time based on predicted traffic. So if I were to leave right now we’ll take about four hours in 39 minutes, let’s see what it would take if I were to leave at three o’clock tomorrow afternoon. This is going to be when there may be higher traffic.
So I’m going to tap on now here. And we’re going to go with tomorrow. And let’s say I want it to go at three o’clock. Now I could also you’re gonna see up at the top here, I could also set when I want to arrive by I’m just going to have that leave at. So now I just tap on Done. And remember, it was about four hours and 30 minutes, it’s calculating, it will add looks like about 20 minutes. So there’s a little bit more traffic, if I were to leave at three o’clock, let’s just see what happens when I leave at two o’clock, maybe I need to leave an hour earlier. So now I just tap on it again. And this time we’re going to go with two o’clock. Maybe I can save my save some time just by leaving a little bit earlier.
Now it looks about the same there. So I can leave at two o’clock or I can leave at three o’clock and it really wouldn’t matter. Now another thing that Apple did add this is for people that have public transit, we did not have public transit here with cards. But basically what you’re able to do is add your transit cards to the wallet. So you do is I’m going to swipe up here, I’m going to go to my wallet, what you do is you would find your transit cards here in your wallet, you’ll be able to see what your balances and replenish your cart. And it’ll give you a warning when it gets low. And then it’ll open up in the Maps app and you can replenish it. So that is what’s new with the Maps app on the iPhone with iOS 16. Probably the biggest thing is multi stop routing. And what you can do is you can set when you are going to leave or when you want to arrive by and then it’ll predict traffic based on different traffic patterns. And for those of you with public transit, your transit cards are now going to be located in the wallet app. So that is what’s new with the Maps app on the iPhone with iOS 16
