Add Widgets to your Home Screen
Learn how to add widgets to your Home Screen along with all your apps on the iPhone.
With iOS 14 on the iPhone, you can now add widgets to your Home Screens along with all your apps. These widgets were only available on the Today view in previous versions of iOS. See how to add widgets to your Home Screens in this video for the iPhone.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
So we saw in the last video, we have a new redesigned to Today view. We have newly redesigned widgets for the Today view. With iOS 14, we can also add these widgets from the Today view to our home screen. Let’s see how we do that on the iPhone. Let’s go to my iPhone. So I’m looking at my home screen here, and I’m on my first home screen. I swipe over to the right. I’m looking at my Today view. Well, now with iOS 14, what we can do is we can add these widgets, any one of these widgets to our home screen here.
So how do we do that? Well, we have to go into our jiggly mode, where we edit our home screen. So I tap and hold on to anyone of the icons. I’m going to go to my Music icon here, tap and hold. And then we have our jiggly mode. Now what I do is I go up to the plus. If you looked at my Today view video, you’re going to see that this is very familiar. I tap on it. And now, from here, I can see all of the widgets that are available to me. We have our featured widgets, and then I swipe up, I have my full library of widgets.
How do we add a widget? Well, let’s go and add a photos widget. I tap on it again. We have different sizes. I swipe to find the size that I want. Let’s go with this one here, and now all I do is drag this up and place it where I want. You’re going to see that the apps move around as I move my widget around here. When I have it, where I want, I let it go. I can go and add another widget, or if I’m all done, I tap on done. And I’ve just added that widget.
So what happened to the apps in this area while they just basically moved over and any apps that were towards the bottom here spilled over to the next screen. So it doesn’t delete any apps. All it does is move them around a little bit more. Once we add the widget, we can easily edit it. We can remove it, we can move it around, or we can add another widget. How do we do that again? We go back and to our jiggly mode, tap and hold. We get our jiggly mode. I want to remove this widget. I tap on the minus. I want to move it. I drag it around. I can even drag it to a new screen here. And then, if I want to add a new widget, I tap on the plus, and I add my widget.
Let’s go and add a weather widget; swipe up until I find weather. Tap on it. Swipe over to find the size that I want. I like the size here. I drag it up, and I like to have this at the top, and I’m going to put it on my first home screen. Let’s go and move my other widget back over to my first home screen. I swipe over, drag it over to the edge, and now have my two widgets there. I tap on Done, and I’ve added those two widgets to my home screen. It did have to move some more apps over. So now I swipe over to the left. You’re going to see; I have more apps here. If I were to add another one, it may even create another home screen.
So that’s how we add widgets to our home screen on the iPhone. This was introduced with iOS 14. All we have to do is go into our edit mode. We tap and hold her long press on any one of the app icons until all the apps. And then you’re going to see a plus in the upper left-hand corner; tap on the plus. And you’re going to see all of the widgets that are available to you. Find the widget that you want, and then drag it up off the library and into your home screen. From there, you can move it around, place it where you want, and also remove it.
So that’s how we add widgets to our home screen on the iPhone.
