iOS 18 Calendar & Reminders: What’s New and How to Use Them

Today, I’m excited to share some fantastic new features available in the Calendar and Reminders apps on your iPhone with iOS 18. These updates are designed to make managing your schedule and to-do lists easier and more efficient. Let’s dive in and explore these exciting changes!

Integrating Reminders into the Calendar App

The first feature I want to highlight is the integration of Reminders into the Calendar app. This makes it super convenient to see all your tasks and appointments in one place.

Here’s How You Can Do It:

  • Add a Due Date to a Reminder: First, open the Reminders app on your iPhone. Add a new reminder by tapping on “New Reminder.” For example, if you need to vacuum your car, type “vacuum car.”
  • Set a Date: Tap the calendar icon to set a due date for the reminder. Let’s say you choose tomorrow. Once you have the date set, tap “Add.”
  • View in Calendar: Now, open the Calendar app and navigate to the date you set for the reminder. You’ll see the reminder listed alongside your events for that day. You can tap on it to view or edit the details.

Adding Reminders Directly from the Calendar App

Another great addition is the ability to add reminders directly from the Calendar app. This further streamlines your planning process.

Steps to Add Reminders from Calendar:

  • Open Calendar and Add Reminder: Tap the plus sign (+) as if you’re adding a new event. You’ll see an option to add a “Reminder.” Select it.
  • Enter Details: Just like in the Reminders app, you can enter all the necessary information. Let’s say you need to wash your car. Type in “wash car” and set the due date.
  • Sync with Reminders App: The reminder will appear both in your Calendar and Reminders apps, ensuring you don’t miss any important tasks.

Turning Off Reminders in Calendar

If for any reason you don’t want to see reminders in your Calendar app, you can easily turn this feature off.

  • Go to Calendar Settings: Open the Calendar app and tap on “Calendars” at the bottom.
  • Uncheck Scheduled Reminders: You’ll see a section called “Scheduled Reminders” under “Other.” Simply uncheck it to remove reminders from your calendar view.

Enhanced Calendar Views

iOS 18 also brings enhanced views to the Calendar app, giving you more flexibility in how you manage your schedule.

New Viewing Options:

  • Detailed View: This view shows more detail about your events and reminders. You can tap on any item to see or edit its information.
  • Stacked View: A more condensed view that shows how busy your day is without displaying all the details. Tap on any day to see more information.
  • Compact View: An even smaller view that still gives a snapshot of your day’s busyness. You can switch between these views by tapping the icon at the top of the Calendar app.

Recovering Deleted Reminders

A highly requested feature now available in iOS 18 is the ability to recover deleted reminders. No more worrying about accidentally deleting important tasks!

How to Recover Deleted Reminders:

  • Access Recently Deleted: In the Reminders app, swipe up to reveal a “Recently Deleted” section.
  • Restore Reminders: Tap on the reminders you want to recover, and they will be restored to your main list.

Conclusion

These updates in iOS 18’s Calendar and Reminders apps aim to simplify your daily planning and ensure you never miss a task or appointment. By integrating reminders into your calendar, offering new viewing options, and allowing for recovery of deleted reminders, iOS 18 provides powerful tools to keep you organized.

I hope you find these features as useful as I do. Give them a try and see how they can improve your productivity. Thanks for reading, and happy organizing!
