Change Notification Styles on the iPhone with iOS 16

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can change the appearance of our notifications on the iPhone with iOS 16. Basically, what Apple did is they introduced three different ways to show our notifications when we’re on the lock screen, we can have them as a count, we can also stack them, this is how it is by default. And then we can also list them. Let’s go over to my iPhone and see how we change these.

Now, what I’m going to do is just show you where this setting is, I’m not going to actually show you my lock screen. I tried to do that, or I tried to record that and it just kept falling asleep. And it was making it difficult to show you the different notifications. But I thought maybe it’d be easier to just show you where it is. And then you can experiment with yourself, it’s pretty simple. And they have the nice little graphics in there that show you what it’s going to look like. So what we need to do is go over to our settings app here, when we’re in our settings, what we need to do is go over to notifications. Under notifications, you’re going to see at the very top display as so basically this is where we set our settings.

Our first option here is a count, when we receive a notification and our iPhone is locked. What we’re going to see at the very bottom of our iPhone is our notifications account of our notifications, we’re not actually going to see the notifications. If you want to read the notifications, you just tap on it, and then it’ll open it up, you’ll be able to see all of your different notifications, we can also set it as a stack. Now when it’s a stack, it basically just overlaps on top of each other. So if you had five notifications, it would just be kind of stack like a deck of cards that you fan out a little bit. They’re not going to be separated, they’re just going to be stacked on top of each other fanning out. And again, what you’re able to do is swipe up to view all of the different cards, and then you can tap on any one of them to open it up. Our last option here is a list. Now this is like taking that same deck of cards and instead of fanning them out on top of each other, basically what you’re going to do is separate them out. So they’re going to be stacked on top of each other.

Now when it does this, it still will group the different notifications from the same app together. So if I were to receive a calendar notification, that would be its own separate card. And then if I were to receive two notifications from my messages, it’s going to stack those two cards together. So it’s kind of like a combination, a hybrid between stack and list. Each app is going to be separated out. But then each notification within an app. If you have multiple notifications within an app, it’s going to stack those or it’s going to fan those out like you would see a deck of cards. So that is how you can change how your notifications are displayed. On an iPhone with iOS 16. You can basically choose between count, stack and list. You’ll find these options in the notification settings within the settings app. And again, this was introduced with iOS 16. So if you’re using an older version of iOS, you will not be able to change the appearance. So that’s how you can change the appearance of your notifications on your lockscreen on an iPhone with iOS 16
