Today, I’m excited to walk you through the latest updates in Safari on your iPhone with iOS 18. As always, my goal is to make these new features easy to understand and use, especially for those of us who didn’t grow up with technology.

Understanding the Redesigned Page Menu

One of the most significant changes in Safari with iOS 18 is the redesigned page menu. This is where you’ll find many of the new options that make browsing easier and more enjoyable. Let’s explore some of the key features.

Listening to Web Pages

Sometimes, reading long articles can be tiring. With the new Safari, you can have your iPhone read the page to you. Simply tap on the option to listen to the page, and let your iPhone do the reading. This feature is perfect for those moments when you want to rest your eyes.

Using Reader Mode

Ads can be quite distracting when you’re trying to read an article. Reader mode strips out all those annoying ads, leaving you with just the text. Tap on the Reader Mode option, and enjoy a clean, ad-free reading experience. You can also customize the font and background color to suit your preferences.

Hiding Distracting Items

Sometimes, certain elements on a webpage can be distracting, like large banners or persistent ads. With iOS 18, you can now hide these distracting items. Just tap on the page view options, select “Hide distracting items,” and tap on the item you want to hide. It’s that simple!

Managing Extensions and Content Blockers

If you use extensions like ad blockers, you can now easily manage them from the page menu. You can turn content blockers on or off and manage your extensions without any hassle.

Finding Text on a Web Page

Looking for specific information on a webpage? The new Safari lets you search within the page. Tap the icon that looks like a magnifying glass, type in what you’re searching for, and Safari will highlight the text for you.

Customizing the Page View

You can also customize the page view to add your favorite options. For instance, if you frequently use the reading list, you can add it directly to the main page, making it quicker to access.

Apple Intelligence: Summarizing Articles

For those with newer iPhones equipped with Apple Intelligence, Safari can now summarize articles for you. When in Reader Mode, tap the option to summarize the article, and your iPhone will provide a concise summary. This feature is fantastic for getting the gist of long articles without having to read every word.

Conclusion

These new features in Safari with iOS 18 are designed to make your browsing experience more enjoyable and user-friendly. Whether you want to listen to articles, hide distractions, or customize your page view, Safari has you covered. And for those with the latest iPhones, Apple Intelligence adds even more convenience with article summaries.

I hope you find these new features as exciting and useful as I do. Happy browsing!
