Set where to download your Apps

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can download our apps to our Home Screen or just to our App Library. This was introduced with iOS 14, along with the App Library. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my iPhone.

Now we can see here that I have three Home Screens. I swipe to the left. We can see my three different Home Screens. If I swipe over one more time, I get to my App Library. If you’re not familiar with the App Library, take a look at my lesson on the App Library. This is where we can see all of our different apps on our iPhone.

Now, when we download an app, we can download it to our Home Screen and just download it to our App Library. I have mine set to download to the App Library. So when I download an app, it will not show up on my Home Screens here. The only place I will find it is in my App Library.

Let’s go and download an app and see what I mean. I’m going to go over to the App Store here. Now what I’m going to do is go over to YouTube here. I do not have this downloaded, so I tap on it to download it. And now we can see that it is downloading it. Now, once I download this, it will only show up in my App Library. It will not show up on my Home Screen. We can see it’s finished here. So I swipe up, and when I swipe over to the left, we can see it did not add it to my Home Screen, but when I go to the App Library, It did add it to my iPhone. It just added it only to my Recently Added folder here. I can also find it by swiping down and looking at my list and going to YouTube here. So it did download it to my iPhone; it just didn’t download it to my Home Screen here.

Now, if I want to download this to my Home Screen, what I need to do is I need to go to my Settings app. And then what we do is we go over to Home Screen. You’re going to see an option here for Newly Downloaded Apps. Do we want to add them to the Home Screen or the App Library only? If I select Home Screen here, it will add it to my Home Screen, and it’ll add it to my App Library, because the App Library does show every app on my iPhone. So now, if I were to download another app from the app store, not only what a show up in my library, but it would also show up on my Home Screen here.

So if you’re missing an app that you’ve downloaded, it may be because it is set to download only over to the App Library. So go over to App Library and see if it has there. If you want to download your apps to your Home Screen, you need to make sure that that is set under Home Screen in the settings app.

Now, what happens if I want to move this YouTube app over to my Home Screen? How do I do that? It’s already downloaded. Well, all I have to do is just drag this over to my Home Screen. So I’m going to tap and hold on it. And then I drag it, and I can place it where I want. I swipe up. And now it is on my Home Screen.

Maybe I want to remove it from my Home Screen, but I want to keep it in my App Library, just like when I downloaded it. Well, when we tap and hold on it, you’re going to see remove app. I tap on remove app. And from here, I’m able to remove it from my Home Screen. When I do this, it does not delete the app. It’s still in my App Library. It just deletes it from my Home Screen.

So that’s how we can have our apps download to our App Library or our Home Screen and the App Library. You’re going to find this in the Settings app under Home Screen. If you do download them to the App Library only, and you want to move it to a Home Screen, all you have to do is just tap and hold on it and drag it to your Home Screen. If you want to remove it from your Home Screen, but yet keep it on your iPhone, so it’s available in the App Library, you tap and hold on that app while it’s in their Home Screen, delete that app, and then you’re going to see an option to just remove it from your Home Screen.

So that’s how we can set where our apps download from the App Store on the iPhone.
