Undock the Keyboard
Learn how to undock your keyboard from the bottom of the iPad.
Did you know you could undock the keyboard from the bottom of your iPad? When you undock it, you can move it then position it or move it vertically up and down anywhere on the iPad. See how to undock and move the keyboard, as well as dock it again, in this video for the iPad.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at how we can undock our keyboard on the iPad. When we undock it, we can basically just move that full-size keyboard up and down on our iPad. Let’s see how we do that. Let’s go to my iPad.
Let’s open up my Notes app. I’m looking at my note here. What I want to do is start typing. I just tap in here and the keyboard comes up. Now by default, this keyboard is docked to the bottom of the iPad. It always stays at the bottom of the iPad. Well, what we can do is we can undock this so it is no longer docked or sticking to the bottom of the iPad. We can move this full size keyboard up and down within our iPad.
How do we do that? We just go over to the right, the lower right-hand corner of our keyboard, and you’re going to see we have a keyboard button here. We tap and hold or long press on this. Now, if I just tap on this, it’s going to disappear, the keyboard will hide. We don’t want to do that. What we need to do is we need to tap and hold or long press on it. When we do that, you’re going to see we have a few options. One of them being Undock. So now I just slide my finger up to the top where it says Undock, I select it, and now we can see our keyboard is no longer docked to the bottom. The keyboard moved up slightly here. You can actually see the bottom of my notes here, but it is still a full size keyboard.
How do we reposition this? Well we just go back over to our keyboard button here and I just drag my keyboard up and down with this key here. If I just tap on it, it’s going to hide it. If I tap and hold on it, I’m able to select a different type of keyboard, but what I want to do is I just want to move it. So now I just one motion, I put my finger on there and drag it up. And now I’m able to move that keyboard. So if you’re typing something and you need to see something at the bottom of what you’re typing, just undock your keyboard and move it up towards the top of your iPad.
How do we dock this keyboard again? How do we dock it to the bottom of our iPad? Well, all we have to do is just drag this down to the bottom of our iPad. So now I go to this keyboard button and I go with one motion. I just drag it down. And when I drag it down to the very bottom, it docks it to the bottom.
So that’s how we can undock the keyboard on our iPad. When we undock the keyboard is still remains a full-sized keyboard, but what we’re able to do is move that keyboard up and down within our iPad. To undock it, we just show our keyboard, and then there’s a keyboard button in the lower right hand corner. With tap and hold on or long press on it, and then you’re going to see Undock. Just slide your finger to where to it says Undock, and it’s going to undock that keyboard. If you want to move it, you just with one motion, go back to that keyboard button and drag it up and down. To dock the keyboard again, you just bring it back down to the bottom or drag it back down to the bottom of your iPad.
So that’s how we undock our keyboard on the iPad.
