Learn how to access the new Today View and it’s widgets in this lesson for the iPad with iOS 14.
Learn how to access the new redesigned Today view on the iPad with iPadOS 14. I go over the different ways to show and hide the Today view and give a brief overview of what is new with the Today view in iOS 14 on the iPad.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to take a look at the newly redesigned Today. View on the iPad with iPadOS 14.
Let’s go to my iPad. If we look at my iPad here, you’re going to see on the left side of my screen; I have the Today view. This is where I have these various switches. Now, before I go and show you what is new with it?
If you do not see this Today, view what you may need to do is swipe over to the right. If I’m on my second Home Screen here, you’re going to see that I do not see the Today view. You have to be on your first Home Screen. So I swipe over to the right I’m on my first Home Screen. And I can see my Today view.
You can also hide this Today. View by default. So it may be hidden on your iPad. So then what you have to do is you have to swipe one more time to get to this Today. View. If it is hidden by default, what you can do is you can show it all the time. I’m going to tap and hold on my maps icon here until we get to our jiggling mode.
You’re going to see; we have to keep on the Home Screen. If this is turned off, what’s going to happen is as it’s Dave, you will not be shown by default. I’m going to turn this off. And now what I’m going to do is tap on done here. When I do that. And then I swipe to switch over to a different Home Screen instead of switching to a different Home Screen.
It hides Today to view. So how do I get to my Today? If you, again, I swipe over to the right, and we have our Today view swipe back over to the left. It hides it. I swipe again; it goes to my second screen. So to show you Today, view all the time. What you need to do is go into that jiggly mode. I’m going to tap and hold on my maps icon here.
It doesn’t matter which app you tap and hold on to, but you need to go into this Gigli mode. And then, when I swipe over to the right to show my Today view, I have to make sure that this slider is on. Now there’s one other option that could be preventing your Today view from being shown on your Home Screen like this, the iPad has what’s called bigger mode with bigger mode.
Your app icons are bigger, but also this means that there is not enough space to show your Today view to see if your iPad is in this bigger mode. What we need to do is we need to go to our settings app. What I do is go down to the Home Screen and doc; we have a set in here to set the size of our app icons.
If it is bigger, we do not have enough room for the Today view. So if your iPad is in bigger mode or zoom mode, You will no longer be able to see Today’s view alongside your app icons. If you want to see that Today view you like what I have on my iPad, you’ll have to tap on more here this way.
We’ll; we’re able to do a, see more on our iPad. We can see more app icons, and we can see the Today view. So that’s how we can make sure that we’re showing our Today view. So what’s new with it. Well, let’s go and press our home button here. And if we look, you’re going to see we have some newly redesigned widgets; if you’ve never used the Today view and older versions of the Today view these widgets here, we’re not able to have different sizes.
So this would you, here is what I would call half size. Well, this one spans across Today’s view, and there are other sizes as well. We can also easily rearrange these widgets. We can stack these widgets. If I go to the switch here, where the calendar when I swipe up on it, you can see I’m swiping to a different widget.
I swipe back down, and it brings me back to my older widgets. I have Siri widgets. These widgets will show based on what I am doing. Syria will look at what I’m doing and show the widgets that it thinks I may need. So it offers a little intelligence era and showing which widget I’m going to be using to manage these widgets.
We go back into our Gigli mode. So now I tap and hold on this widget here. I could also tap and hold on any one of my app icons. We just got to get into that jiggly mode. And then from here, what I’m able to do is drag these around. I can place them on top of each other to stack them. I tap on the minus here to remove her from my Today view.
And then if I want to add more widgets, I tap on the plus here; I’ll show you more detail about those different options in subsequent videos and this video; I just wanted to give you an overview of what this new Today view looks like and how you can show it on your iPad. So that’s a look at the new Today view.
We have newly redesigned widgets. We can stack these widgets, we can move them around, and then we can also just altogether hide our Today view. If we hide our Today view, all we have to do is swipe over to the right to show the Today view. To manage our Today view as well as the widgets. We tap and hold on any one of the widgets or a new one of our app icons.
We get into that jiggly mode, and then we can move them around. We can add more widgets. We can remove widgets. We can place widgets on top of other widgets to create stacks. Again, I’ll talk about some of these features and other videos.
So that’s a look at the new Today view on the iPad.
