Sharing Files from Your iPad

Sharing files from your iPad is something you’ll likely do often, whether it’s sending photos to friends, sharing documents with coworkers, or moving files between your own devices. One of the easiest ways to do this is with AirDrop. It works wirelessly, doesn’t require an internet connection, and keeps everything private and secure.

How to Use AirDrop from the Share Menu

When you want to share something—like a photo, webpage, note, or document—you start by tapping the Share icon. AirDrop appears across the top of the Share sheet. Your iPad immediately begins looking for nearby Apple devices, including your own devices signed in with your Apple ID. Just tap the device or person you want to send the file to. The recipient sees a preview and can accept or decline the transfer. Once accepted, the file moves instantly using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Adjusting AirDrop Settings

To control who can send you files, open Control Center and press and hold the connectivity panel (where Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are located). You’ll find AirDrop at the bottom. You can choose Receiving Off, Contacts Only, or Everyone. Contacts Only offers the best balance between convenience and privacy, while Everyone is perfect for group situations like classes, meetings, or family events. These options are also available in Settings.

Using AirDrop Day-to-Day

AirDrop is one of the quickest and most dependable ways to move content from your iPad to other Apple devices. Once you know where to find it and how to adjust the settings, it becomes a simple tool you’ll use constantly—whether you’re sharing files with others or sending documents
