Customize the Date and Time in the Mac’s Menu Bar

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can add the date and date to our Menu Bar on the Mac, specifically when you’re using Mac OS, Monterey. Now, why am I going to be looking at this with MacOS Monterey only? Well, that’s because Apple changed how it works in Mac OS, Monterey. And again, they’re going to change it with Mac OS Ventura, with MacOS vintra. We no longer have System Preferences, we have settings. with Mac OS Monterey, they added a new preference pane called the menu bar, it actually might go back to Catalina but I think most people are using Mac OS Monterey, if they’re using Catalina point being if you’re using Mac OS Mojave, you will not be able to use this method to add the date and date. Let’s see what I mean. Let’s go over to my Mac.

Now if we look at my Mac, here, you’re going to see I have the day and time in the upper right hand corner. What I like to do is also have the date and maybe put in there if it’s am or pm. The way that we do that is by going to our System Preferences. So now what I do is I go up to the Apple menu here. And then what we do is we go over to our System Preferences. Under our System Preferences, we have a preference pane here called dock and menu bar. And again, this is going to be missing if you’re using an older version of Mac OS such as Mac OS Mojave. So now I selected this. And then what we do is we swipe up until we find

clock. Under clock we have a number of different options. This is where I can set if I want to show the day the week and show the date I like to show both. So let’s go ahead and select them both. And now you’re going to see I have the day, the date and the time. I also like to have the am and pm. So I select Show am and pm here. And now we can see we have the am and pm there as well. Now if you have a Mac with the knotch in the center here, you’re going to see another option, an option to only show the date when there is space available.

On my personal Mac, which does have the knotch I actually have it show all the time. I love seeing that date there. That’s how I look at the date, I don’t go down to my calendar here and look at the date. I just always go up to the upper right hand corner here and look at the date. So I like to have it always show. So that’s basically all we have to do to show our day in date on the Mac. Again, this is only with Mac OS, Monterey. If you’re using a newer version of Mac OS such as Ventura, you need to go to your system settings which is in the same spot as the preferences. So that’s how you can easily show the day and date on macOS Monterey.
