Always Show the Menu Bar in Full Screen

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can always show the menu bar, even when we’re working with an app in full screen on the Mac. This feature was introduced with macOS Monterey. Let’s go to my Mac. Let’s open up an app in full screen. What I’m going to do is go down to my dock here and we’re going to open up safari.

To open this up in full screen. What we do is we just click on the green dot here. Now, when I do this, watch what happens by default, the menu bar up here is going to disappear. Let’s go ahead and click on this and we can see that the menu bar disappeared. So how do we get this menu bar back while all we need to do is just bring our cursor up to the top and then we can see we have our menu.

When I move my cursor. The menu bar disappears. Well with Mac OS Monterey, Apple introduced the ability to keep that menu bar showing all the time. This is how I prefer to work with my Mac. I do like opening up my apps and full screen, but I also like seeing that menu bar. A lot of times, what we will have is more features available to us in the menu bar.

So I really don’t like the idea of going up to the menu bar, waiting for a second and then go and finding the menu that I want to select. I would like to show this all the time. So how do we do that? Well, all we need to do, let’s go back and put this into windowed mode. What we need to do is we need to go to our System Preferences.

Actually, what I’m going to do is I’m just going to close this. We go up to her apple menu here. And then we go over to our System Preferences under our System Preferences. What we need to do is go to doc and menu bar. When I select this, when we go down towards the bottom, you’re going to see menu bar. We have two different options here.

What I can do is I can automatically hide and show the menu bar on the desk. And then I can also automatically hide and show the menu bar in full screen. You’re going to see that this is selected by default in order to show the menu bar all the time. What we need to do is we need to de-select this. So now I just de-select it.

And when we open up an app and full screen, let’s go back over to Safara here. I’m going to click on the green.watch. What happens or the menu? It’s still showing up at the top. When I moved my cursor away, it is still showing. So that menu bar is always going to show even when I’m working with an app and full screen.

So that’s how we can always show the menu bar on the Mac. Again, this was introduced with Mac OS Monterey. So if you’re using an earlier version of Mac OS, you will not be able to enabled. To always show the menu bar. You just go to your System Preferences and then go to your doc and menu bar preferences at the bottom.

You’re going to see menu bar to always show your menu bar. You just de-select the last option. This is going to be selected by default, which means it’s going to hide that menu bar when you go into full screen, just de-select it. And then the next time you open up an app and full screen, the menu bar will always.
