Opening an Enclosing Folder from a Finder Window

In this tip, I will show you how you can open up the enclosing folder of a Finder window on the Mac. Let’s go into my Mac. Let’s go and open up a new finder window. I go up under file, and then we go to new finder window. Now I’m in my home folder, dance tutorial. So let’s go and open up my documents folder.

And now, let’s go and open up my personal folder. So now, I am in my personal folder. What I want you to do is I want to go back over to my home folder. One way of doing that is just by clicking on the left arrow here; let’s go ahead and click on it. It takes me back to my documents folder, and then I click on it again.

It takes me to. Dan’s tutorials, but the way I like to do it is through the icon here, where we have dance tutorials. Let’s go ahead and open up that folder again. I’m going to go to documents, and now I’m going to go to personal. I go up here to personal. I want to go back to my home folder or want to go to my documents folder.

Well, to do that, all we have to do is hold down the command key. And then we click on this. When I do that. What I’m able to do is go back into my enclosing folder. So now, I select dance tutorials, and I’m in dance tutorials. Dan’s tutorials is in my Mac on my hard drive, my Macintosh HD.

Now, when I hold down the command key and click, I’m able to go to my hard drive. As I said, this is my favorite way of opening up an enclosing folder. You just command, click on the folder icon in the finder window. So that’s how you can open up an in closing folder, any finder window on the Mac.
