Introduction

Search is one of the most powerful tools on the iPad, allowing you to quickly find apps, documents, messages, and information across the system. However, if search results feel cluttered or show information you don’t find useful, a few adjustments can make a big difference. By customizing how search works, you can make it faster, cleaner, and better suited to how you actually use your iPad.

Where to Find Search Settings

All search-related options are located in the Settings app. Open Settings, scroll down, and tap Search. This area controls how search behaves across your iPad, including what content is included, which apps appear in results, and which search engine is used for web searches. Spending a few minutes here can significantly improve how helpful search feels in everyday use.

Exclude Recent & Related Content

By default, search may include recent activity and related suggestions. While this can be useful, it can also surface content you don’t need or want to see. In Search settings, you can turn off options related to recent and suggested content so results stay focused on direct matches instead of past activity.

Change the Search Engine

Your iPad allows you to choose which search engine is used when performing web searches. This option is also found in Settings > Search. If you have a preferred search engine, changing this setting ensures more consistent results and a browsing experience that matches your expectations.

Exclude Apps from Search Results

Not every app needs to appear in search results. Some apps may add unnecessary clutter or surface information you rarely use. In Search settings, you can control which apps are included so results only come from the apps that matter most to you. This makes search results easier to scan and faster to use.

Wrap Up

Customizing search settings gives you greater control over how your iPad behaves. By adjusting what content appears, selecting the right search engine, and excluding apps you don’t rely on, search becomes a more efficient and reliable tool. These small changes can make everyday tasks on your iPad quicker and far less frustrating.
