Did you know could add a website to your Home Screen on the iPad? When you do this, it acts likes an app. You can move it to different home screens, add it to the Dock, and put it in a folder with other apps. See how to add a website to your Home Screen in this video for the iPad.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
And this tip for the iPad, I’m going to show you how you can save a website to your Home Screen. This way, you can access a website directly from your Home Screen like it’s an app. Let’s go to my iPad.
The first thing we need to do is we need to open up Safari. Now, what we need to do is we need to go to the website that we want to save to our Home Screen.
So let’s say I wanted to save Dan’s Tutorials to my Home Screen, so all I have to do is just go to my Home Screen, tap on it, and it opens up to Dan’s Tutorials.
To do that, we just go up to our Share icon. I tap on it. And you’re going to see, when I swipe over to the left, you’re going to see Add to Home Screen. Depending on which iPad you have in which iPadOS you have, you may just have to swipe up. But somewhere in this Share Sheet is going to be Add to Home Screen.
When I tap on this, it gives me the opportunity to name it. Right now, it is named Apple Training Dan’s Tutorials. That’s a little bit long for a Home Screen name. So I’m just going to shorten this up. What I’m going to do is I’m just going to take out Apple Training here. So I tap in there, the keyboard comes up. And now I just take out Apple Training. And now it’s going to be called Dan’s Tutorials. Now, all I need to do is just tap on Add, and it added it to my home screen.
Now you’re going to see that it didn’t add it to my first Home Screen. So now what I need to do is I need to swipe over to the left, and you’re going to see Dan’s Tutorials. I tap on this, and it opens up Safari, and it goes to my website Dan’s Tutorials. I can treat this; I’m going to tap on the Home Button here; I can treat this just like any other app. I want to move it to the first Home Screen, or maybe even to the Dock; I tap and hold on it until it starts jiggling, which means I can edit it. And then I can drag it over to the left edge, put it to my first Home Screen, or I can put it on my Dock. Now, when I want to open up my site, I just tap on my icon, and it’ll open up to Dan’s Tutorials.
So that’s how you can add a website to your Home Screen as an app. All you have to do is just go to the website first in Safari, tap on the Share icon, and then save it to your Home Screen. You can treat this just like any other app. You can move it to another Home Screen or even to the Dock.
So that’s how you can add a website to your Home Screen on the iPad.
