Set the Text Size for Individual Apps on the iPad

Learn how to set the text size of individual apps through the Control Center on the iPad.

As an example, you can make the text size larger in Messages, while making the text size smaller in the Settings app. This was introduced with iOS 15 and can easily be done through the Control Center. Video TranscriptIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can quickly change the text size on an app by app basis. In iPadOS 15, Apple introduced the ability to change various settings on an app by app basis. This includes making the text bold or making it larger or smaller, increasing the contrast. The way that we do this is through the Accessibility and Settings. Well, if we go through the Control Center, what we’re able to do is quickly adjust the text size on an app by app basis. That’s what we’re going to look at in this video. Let’s see how we can change our text size on an app by app basis using the Control Center. Let’s go to my iPad.

Now, the first thing that we need to do is we need to make sure that we have the Text Size control in the Control Center. This is how we change our text sizes, through the Control Center. So we go over to our Settings app and then we go over to Control Center.

Under Control Center, you’re going to see Included Controls. These are all the controls that are included in your Control Center. You’re going to see I have Text Size here, so I have this Text Size control in my Control Center. If you do not have it in your Control Center, what you’ll need to do is swipe up until you see More Controls, and then find Text Size under More Controls here and tap on the green plus to the left of it. But again, I already have it in my Control Center. So now let’s see how it can change the text size on an app by app basis. Let’s go and tap on the Home button.

Let’s say I wanted to have the text size larger in the Messages app, but I did not want to increase the text size on all of my apps. I only want to increase it on the Messages app. Well, all we have to do is first open up the app that we want to change that text size to, so in my case here, I need to open up the Messages app. I tap on it. And then what we do is we go over to our Control Center. Remember how we added that Text Size control? Well, when I go up to the top here and I swipe down to get to my Control Center, you’re going to see my Text Size control.

Now in past versions of iPadOS, when you tapped on this, what you’re able to do is drag this up and down to change the text size, and you can still do that. It’s going to affect all of the apps by default. When you drag this up. It’s going to change the text size of all of the apps.

Now, what I want to do is I want to change the text size of my current app, in this case messages. So now what I need to do is I need to tap on this. It moves the blue slider over to Messages Only. And now any changes I make are only going to affect the Messages app.

So when I drag this up to make the text size larger, let’s go extreme here, it’s only going to change the text size of my Messages app. It is not going to change a text size of any other app because I have a set for Messages Only.

So now let’s close this and take a look at my Messages app. You can see the text size is quite large, but if we go over to our Settings app, I’m going to press in on the Home button and let’s go and open up my Settings app. You’re going to see that the tech size is not large at all. In fact, I could make this tech size smaller. So how do we do that again? And we just go up to our Control Center. We go down to our text size. We make sure that we set it for our current app, in my case, the Settings app. And now I just drag the slider up and down. So we’re going to make the smaller, our text smaller. I tapped to get outside. And now the text is smaller in my Settings app, but yet when I go over to my Messages app, let’s go ahead and open this up again, the text is large.

Now, how do you turn that off on an app by app basis? Maybe in the Messages app here, I no longer want to have this text size that large. How can I turn that off or get it back to its standard size? Well, all we have to do is just go back up to our Control Center. I swipe, and then we go over to our text size control and you’re going to see it a set for Messages Only. To turn off any customization, all we do is just go and tap on All Apps. When I tap on All Apps, it’s going to remove any customizations for that particular app.

So now the Messages app here is going to be back at it’s standard size. My Settings app is still going to be set for the smaller size. If I wanted to change that, I would go open up the Settings app and then go to the Control Center and make sure I turn off any customizations for Text Size, just make it for All Apps.

So that’s how we can change the text size or quickly changed the text size on an app by app basis on the iPad. With iPadOS 15, Apple introduced the ability to make various changes on an app by app basis. This includes the text size, making text bold, we can adjust the contrast. Typically we would do this through the Settings app, and then we’d go to Accessibility. But if we just want to change the text size, we can also do that through the Control Center. We first have to make sure that we have our Text Size control in the Control Center. Once you do that, you open up the app that you want to change the text size of, open up your Control Center, tap on Size, Size, and then make sure that the slider is set for that particular app. You do not want to adjust the text size for all of the apps. When you do that, any changes that you make in the text size will affect only that app.

So that’s how you change the text size or quickly change the text size on an app by app basis on the iPad.
