iCloud Passwords Now Work in Chrome? Here’s the macOS Extension You Need!

Do you ever get frustrated when you can’t access your saved iCloud passwords in Chrome or other browsers on your Mac? If you primarily use Safari but need to switch to Chrome for certain websites, it can be annoying to not have easy access to passwords you’ve already saved. Well, now with macOS Sonoma there is a solution. Apple has released an iCloud Passwords extension for Chromium-based browsers that allows you to seamlessly sync your iCloud Keychain passwords across all your browsers. By installing this extension from the Chrome Web Store and connecting it to your iCloud account, you can enable password auto-fill in Chrome using the passwords saved in your iCloud Keychain.

This is extremely useful for a couple key reasons. First, you likely have sensitive login information stored in your iCloud Keychain that you now can utilize no matter what browser you are using. Second, any password changes made in either Safari or Chrome will automatically sync, keeping everything seamless and up-to-date. The days of re-entering passwords are over! Overall, this extension removes friction and makes password management much simpler if you frequently switch between Safari and other browsers. But note that you do need to be running the latest version of macOS Sonoma for the extension to work currently.

To start using this great new feature, you first need to download the iCloud Passwords extension from the Chrome Web Store. You can find it by searching for “iCloud Passwords” and verifying it is made by Apple. Once installed, you will be prompted to connect the extension to your iCloud Keychain using two-factor authentication. After entering your verification code, your iCloud passwords will be synced and ready for use! When logging into a website where you already have passwords saved, like Adobe for example, the extension will automatically populate your credentials. It’s as easy as clicking the extension and signing in. Behind the scenes, it is pulling directly from your iCloud Keychain. And any future password changes made on that site will sync across Safari and Chrome going forward. It provides a seamless unified password experience across browsers.

In this video, I show you how it all works. I hope it helps!
