Add Multiple Stops to Routes in the Maps App with macOS Ventura

In this video, we’re going to look what was introduced in the Maps app with MacOS Ventura, we’re specifically going to look at multi stops, how we can add multiple stops to a route, and how we can plan when we want to leave or arrive to an A route based on traffic. Let’s see what I mean. Let’s go over to my Mac. So I’m looking at my maps app here. Let’s first look at how we can add multiple stops to a route. Let’s say I was going to Mac on aw Mackinaw City. I’m in Michigan here, I’m located in Holland here. And what we’re going to do is go on a trip to Mexico City here. To do that, I just go over to search maps, and I type in Mackinaw City. Pretty simple. This is how it basically works. And now it’s going to create a route. But what I would like to do is stop and Traverse City on the way Traverse City is located over here.

How can I do that? In past versions of maps, what I had to do was two different routes. Well, now what you’re going to see is I can add a stop. So let’s add Traverse City on here. And now what it is doing is it’s calculating from makin island over to Traverse City. That’s not what I want to do. I want to go to Traverse City first, and then go to Makena. So now what I need to do is just go over to the right here and I drag this around. And now it’s going to reroute it. Let’s add one more stop, we’re going to stop on the way back over and flushing to see my inlaws. And now it’s creating a complete route for me. So that’s how we add multiple stops. Now what about planning a route? Well, you’re going to see below all of the stops here I have now. And then I also have plan. When I click on plan, what I’m able to do is set when I want to leave, and then it’ll calculate the time that it’s going to take me for that route. So now what you’re able to do is see when the best time to leave based on Route prediction or traffic predictions. What happens when I leave at eight o’clock tomorrow morning, am I going to run into traffic? Well, let’s find out. All I need to do is just click on plan. And I just click on the date tomorrow. And we’re going to go with 8am.

Remember is about seven hours, 45 minutes somewhere in there, we can see that if I leave tomorrow, it’s actually going to be a little bit less, we can plan routes for up to two weeks ahead of time. And again, this is all based on predicted traffic. In addition to setting when we want to leave, we can also set it for when we want to arrive. What I’m going to do is clear this, I have an aunt that lives in Des Moines. Let’s say that we were going to visit her. So I type in here, Des Moines. And it’s given me directions here I just click on directions, it’s going to take about seven hours, seven hours and 28 minutes. And that’s if I leave now, well, let’s just say that she is cooking dinner, and we need to be there by 5pm. Tomorrow. When do I have to leave to get there by 5pm? Well, all we have to do is just go over to plan here. And we click on arrive, I set when I want to arrive we’re going to go with tomorrow. And I type in here 5pm. And we can see that I need to leave at 12 or 7pm tomorrow. So I’d probably leave about 1130 to give myself a little bit of lead time. So in addition to setting when you want to leave, you can also set it for when you want to arrive at a destination. So that is how we add multiple stops as well as plan our routes in the Maps app with Mac OS Ventura. We can also do the same thing with iPad os 16 and iOS 16. So if you use an iOS 16 Or later iPad os 16 or later, you’ll be able to do the same thing on those devices.
