Actions and Tasks

In this video, we will take a look at how it can perform specific actions or tasks on a selected file or folder on the Mac. This is very similar to using the secondary menu on the Mac. Let’s go to my Mac. I have my Documents folder here. Let’s say I wanted to create a new folder. I do not have any documents or folders selected. What I want to do is I want to create a new folder. We know that we can do this by going up to File, and then we go to New Folder. I can also use my secondary menu. I have a trackpad. I’m going to do a two-finger tap, and now we have new folder.

In addition to going up to File in the menu bar and using the secondary menu, I can also go to the tasks icon here. When I select this, I have many the same options as I do in my secondary menu. Click on it, and there are the options, including creating a new folder. Let’s see what happens when I select a file. I’m going to select beach here. If I use the secondary menu, what can I do? I can open it; I can open it with a different application, move it to the trash, go and duplicate it, copy it, and even apply a tag to it. Now, when we go to our tasks icon, let’s see what we can do.

With our tasks icon, we can perform specific tasks on our selected files and folders. These tasks that we can perform are the same as if we use the secondary menu. It’s another way of getting to these different options in the secondary menu. Instead of using a two-finger tap, or using the Ctrl-click trick, what you can do is you can go over to the icon here, click on it, and you can perform specific tasks on your files or folders.
