Filter your Albums
Learn how to show only your photos or videos within an album in the Photos app on the iPhone.
In iOS 14, Apple introduced another layer of filtering. You can now show only your edited photos and video, photos, or only your videos within an album. You can also make a combination of these filters, such as showing only the photos that you’ve edited. See how to filter your photos and videos within an album in this lesson for the Photos app on the iPhone.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at the new filtering options we have in the Photos app on the iPhone. In iOS 14, Apple added an additional layer of filtering options. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my iPhone.
Let’s go and open up my Photos app. So I’m looking at all of my photos here. I’m looking at the library. Let’s go and take a look at one of my albums. I’m going to go over two albums here, and let’s look at my favorites. Now right now, I’m looking at my photos; you’re going to see that this here as a photo, and this here is a video – it has an 11 seconds in the lower right-hand corner. What I would like to do is I would like to filter this further where I’m just looking at my photos. I don’t want to look at my videos. Well, in order to do that, all you have to do is go up to the More button here in the upper right-hand corner. And you’re going to see Filter. From here, what I can do is I can filter my selection further. So right now I’m looking at all of my favorites. When I tap on photos here, I am now looking at only my favorite photos. I’m no longer looking at my videos. My favorite videos. I tap on done. And now I’m just looking at my photos.
When I swipe up here, towards the bottom, you’re going to see that it tells you that it is being filtered by photos. I want to change this filter. I just tap on photos here. And I can change it to just looking at my videos. I tap on it, and then I need to turn off photos. I can have more than one filter here. I tap on done. And now I am looking at only my favorite videos. And again, down at the bottom, you’re going to see it is now filtered by videos.
I can also change the filter by going up to the filter button here. Tapping on it and then changing my filter. To show all items again, I just go back over to All Items; I tap on done, and now no filters are being applied. You’re going to see a showing all of my photos, all of my videos in that favorite album; this can work across any album. So now you can easily just select an album and further filter it. To do that, you just go up to the upper right-hand corner, tap on the More button, three dots, tap on filter, and from there able to further filter your album.
So that’s how we can further filter our photos on the iPhone.
