Learn how to hide your photos and videos from the Photos Library and how to hide the Hidden Album in the Photos app on the Mac.
Did you know that you could hide your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac? When you hide them, they will no longer show in your photos album. You find them in an album called Hidden. You can also hide the Hidden album. See how to hide your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at how we can hide our photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I am in my Photos app, and let’s say I wanted to hide a few of these photos. I do not want them to show in my main library. If you recall, our library will show us all of our different photos and videos. We’ll what we can do is we can hide them from the this library. When we hide them, it doesn’t necessarily delete them. All it does is hide them.
So how do we hide them? Well, the first thing we need to do is we need to select them. So I’m going to select these three photos here of the seagulls. I just hold down the shift key and now they’re selected. Now, what I need to do is I need to hide them. How do we hide them? Well, we have a couple of different ways to do that. I can go up under Image in the menu bar and then go to Hide. When I select this, it’s going to hide those three photos. I can also use a control key and get to our little menu and you’re going to see Hide 3 Photos. And then there’s a keyboard shortcut command L.
So now I just select this and those photos are going to be hidden. They are no longer in my album. So where are they? Remember the Photos app doesn’t delete these. It just hides them. Well, it hides them in an album.
You’re going to see we have here an album called Hidden. When I select this. There are my three photos. If I want to unhide any one of these, all I have to do is just select what I want to unhide. And again, I can use the control key and unhide it. I can go up to the menu bar, go up under Image and then Unhide it, and then I can also use command L. So let’s go ahead and select this, and now only these two photos are hidden. We go back over to my library. We can see we have my one photo here. Now it does hide these out of the library here, but still we can easily find those photos by going to Hidden here. I click on this and I can see all of those photos. So they’re not hidden very well.
What we can also do is hide this album. When we hide this album, we will no longer see this album in the sidebar. To do that. What we do is we go up under View in the menu bar, and then you’re going to see Hide the Hidden Photo Album. So now I select this, and then album is no longer there. So now those photos are truly hidden. If someone comes up to your Photos app, they’re not going to see an album called Hidden and click on it to view those photos. It’s just not there. It is hidden.
I can still hide photos. I go up under library here. Let’s go and hide this photo again. I’m just going to use a control key, click, and then you’re going to see Hide 1 Photo. I select it, confirm that I want to hide it. And now that photo is hidden, but again, we can not find it here on our sidebar. I want to view those hidden photos. Then what I do is I go up under View here, and then we go over to Show Hidden Photo Album. When I select this, the Hidden album shows. I can click on it, and now what I’m able to do is view all of those photos and videos in there.
So that’s how we hide our photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac. When we hide them, it doesn’t delete them out of the library. But what it does do is. It hides some out of the library. It places them into a hidden album. Now by default, this hidden album is not really hidden. It’s still going to show up in your sidebar. If you want to hide the hidden album, you go up under View in the menu bar. And then from there you can select to hide the hidden album. When you do that, that hidden album is no longer going to show in the side bar. And then any photos and videos that you hide are truly going to be hidden from your interface in the Photos app. To show that hidden album again, you just go up under View and select that you want to show it.
So that’s how we hide our photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac.
