Learn the different ways to favorite your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac.
The Photos app on the Mac has a few different ways to favorite your photos and videos. You can click on the heart in the thumbnail, select multiple photos and videos and click on the heart in the toolbar, or use a keyboard shortcut. See the different ways to favorite your photos and videos in this video for the Photos app on the Mac.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at the different ways we can favorite photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I am in my Photos app. If we look, you’re going to see I have a folder here for Favorites. When I click on this, I can view all of my favorite photos and videos. Each one of these photos and videos has a little heart to the lower left-hand corner. This is indicating that it is a favorite video or a favorite photo. So how did I favorite these? How did I get that heart to show in my favorites? Well, we have a couple of different ways to do that; let’s go back over to my library here.
When we’re looking at our photos and videos here, you can also see that some have a heart in the lower left-hand corner. This is indicating that it is favorite. If I want to favorite any other photo or video, all I need to do is just move my cursor over top of any one of the thumbnails; when I do that, you’re going to see a heart show. So I can see a heart here in the lower left-hand corner, I just click on this, and it favored it. By favoriting it, it added it to my Favorites here. So now when I select this, you’re going to see, I have that photo there.
If I no longer want to favorite it, I can click on the heart, and it’ll remove it from my Favorites. It’s still going to be in my library here. We can see it as still here in my library, but it is not favorited. So that’s one way, we just go over to the lower left-hand corner, click on the heart, and it’ll favorite those photos.
Another way is to select your photos and videos. Let’s go and select a few photos here; actually, I’m going to select these three videos here, and now all I need to do is just go up to the heart that’s located in the toolbar. It’s on the right side of the toolbar. I click on this heart, and it just added all three of those to my Favorites. So all three of those are going to be located in my Favorites album here. And we can see here they are.
This is also how I can unfavorite them. Let’s go and select a few of these. I want to unfavorite these; all I do is just go up to the heart here, click on it, and they no longer favorited.
Another way is through the Get Info window. Let’s select this photo here, this video here, I go up to the i, this is going to open up a new window that shows me all of the metadata for that particular photo or video. You’re going to see we have a heart on the right side. This is telling me that it is favorited. I click on it; it is no longer favorited.
Another way is through keyboard shortcuts. Let’s go back over to my library. I want to favorite this photo here. I select it, and to find out what the keyboard shortcut is, you just go up under Image in the menu bar, and then you’re going to see an option for Add to Favorite. If we go over to the right, you’re going to see the keyboard shortcut for it. It’s just a period. So now, all I need to do is just type a period here. I’m going to hit the period key on my keyboard, and we can see it favorited it.
So those are some ways that you can favorite your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac. When we favorite a photo or a video, it’s going to show on a special album called Favorites. To favorite a photo or video, you can click on the heart in the lower left-hand corner, or what you can do is select what you want to favorite, and go to the heart in the toolbar. You can also get info on it and click on the heart there. And then, if you want to get fancy, you can use the keyboard shortcut. Just select what you want to favorite or unfavorite, and then tap the period key.
So those are some ways that you can favorite your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac.
