Create Projects with your Photos
Learn how to add project extensions from the App Store to help you create books, cards, calendars, and more in Photos on the Mac.
Did you know you could create calendars, books, cards, and other projects with your photos in the Photos app on the Mac? You do this through project extension downloaded from the App Store. See how to download project extensions from the App store to help you create projects including calendars and books, in this video for Photos on the Mac.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, I’m going to show you how project extensions work for the Photos app on the Mac. With project extensions, what we’re able to do is create books and calendars and other items directly from our photos within the Photos app. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I am in my Photos app here, and let’s say I wanted to create a book or maybe I want to create a calendar from a number of these different photos here. How do I do that? Well, in past versions of Photos, and if we want to go way back to iPhoto, what we were able to do is create this within the Photos app directly, or within iPhoto directly. But a few years ago, Apple took that feature out, and now what we need to do is we need to do this through extensions. We have to download the extension from the App Store, and then we can create that book, that calendar.
So how do we get these extensions? Well the first thing we need to do is go down to Projects here. And if we go over to the right, you’re going to see we have this little plus. When I click on the plus, you’re going to see I have all of the different options here that I can create. This is what we used to be able to do from within the Photos app directly. But as I mentioned, we can no longer create any of these within the Photos app. The only thing that we can create from within the Photos app is a Slideshow. All of these other options here, calendars, books, cards, all of these other options we have to go to the App Store and download an extension.
To do that, so let’s say I wanted to create a calendar, first thing I need to do is go over to the App Store to find that extension that allows me to create a calendar from my photos. So I select this. It’s going to open up the App Store and then it’s going to take me to where I have all of the extensions. It does give me a little introduction of how the whole thing works, but basically all we have to do is just scroll up here and you’re going to see different extensions. So all of these different extensions will allow me to create calendars or books or cards.
So here are extensions for creating framed prints and canvasses. Here are extensions for sending a card. I keep swiping up. I have extensions for creating a calendar. Now, some these extensions will allow you to do all of this. If we look here under create a calendar, I have Mimeo Photos. If we go over to print, I have Mimeo Photos. If we go over to sending a card, I have Mimeo Photos. So some of these extensions will allow you to do multiple things, they will allow you to send a card or create a calendar. What I would recommend is just clicking on any one of these to view more information about it.
So I just click on Mimeo Photos here. If I like what I see, I just click on Get, and let’s install this. And now it is downloading that extension. Once it downloads it, I’m going to be able to find it in my Photos app. Let’s go ahead and close this. Let’s see how this integrates with the Photos app.
So now I go back down to my projects here and let’s say I wanted to create that calendar. Well, now that I have that extension downloaded, all I need to do is just click on the plus. I go down to Calendar, and you’re going to see Mimeo Photos. I select this and I’m able to create that calendar. I do it through the Mimeo Photos extension. It’s basically going to open up an app, and then from there, it’s going to connect up to my Photos app so I can import those photos that I want in that calendar.
So that’s how we work with project extensions in the Photos app on the Mac. With project extensions, what we’re able to do as print books, calendars cards, we can order prints. We can create wall decorations. We do this through project extensions, which are available in the App Store. The first thing you’ll need to do is install the extension you want. To do that, you go to your projects, click on the plus, and then select what type of project you want to create and select App Store. The App Store will take you to all of the different extensions that are available. You find the extension, click on install and then go back over to the Photos app. And from there, you’re going to be able to create that project, through that extension that you just installed.
So that’s how we work with our project extensions to create books, calendars, and cards in the Photos app on the Mac.
