Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced iPad user, this video is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to lift a subject out of a photo and create a brand new photo using the Pages app. So sit back, relax, and let’s get started!
Video TranscriptionIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can copy the subject out of a photo, and then how we can paste that subject into a new photo, we’re going to do this on the iPad.
Let’s go over to my iPad. So I’m on my iPad. And the first thing you want to make sure is that you’re using iPad os 16. Why? Because you can only lift the subject out of photos when you use an iPad or 16 or later. So make sure that you are running iPad os 16. I’m running iPad os 16. So now let’s see how we look the subject out of a photo. To do that, what we do is we go over to our photos app, you can do this from within any app, but I’m going to use the Photos app here. And let’s say I wanted to lift this Jeep out of the background here, this is basically what we’re doing are lifting the subject out of the background. To do that, all I have to do is just long press on it. And when I do, you’re gonna see little white line go through it. And basically, I’ve just lifted that subject up that Jeep up, let go.
And from here, what I’m able to do is copy this. So that’s basically all we have to do, we can paste it into a message, we can paste it into an email, we can paste it into a Pages document, which is what we’re going to do. I’m going to go over to this photo here, we have Beth and myself, I want to lift Beth and myself out of this picture here this image, I tap and hold. And we can see it lifted Beth and myself out of it. And now what I’m able to do is copy this. Alright, so now we know how to lift the subject out of a photo. Let’s see how we can add these to an image. So I have this image here, I’d like to add that jeep and Beth and myself to this photo. How can I do that? Well, we do this through the Pages app. So now what I’m going to do is copy this photo as well. I’m going to copy this one first because I want it to be in the background.
To do that, what we do is we go up to the share icon. And what you’re going to see here when I swipe up is copy photo. So now if do is just copy this, and I open up a new Pages document. So let’s go ahead and do that. I go over to Pages here, I tap on the plus, what I would recommend is going with a blank layout, you can make a word processing type document or layout type document with Pages. I recommend going with the layout type. And because we’re just playing around with the layouts here just makes things a little simpler. So now I select this. And now what I need to do is paste that back and remember it’s in the clipboard. How do I paste it? Well, being that it is a page layout type document, all I have to do is just tap the screen and you’re going to see paste. When I paste. It’s going to paste that image in there. Alright, so now I have my base, I have my image. Now let’s go and copy the subject. We’re going to copy Beth and myself and that jeep, so I need to go back over to photos. So I swipe up. We go to photos here. And what we’re going to do is take Bethan myself first, how do I do that? I long press. And then when I let go, I copy it. And now I need to go to my Pages. And I need to paste it in here.
So let’s go ahead and do that. I have nothing selected, I tap, we go to paste. And there’s Beth and myself. I want to make this a little bit smaller. All we have to do is just take these handles here, and we can resize this. We’ll go right about here and move it over. I know I have my arm outside of the photo here, but we’ll take care of that shortly. So there’s Beth and myself in this photo, let’s go and add the jeep. To do that I swipe up, we go over to my photos here. I tap and hold her long press on the Jeep. Let go. I copy it. We’re going to do the same thing. I just go back over to my Pages document. And now what I do is just paste this and there’s a Jeep so let’s go and make this smaller. Move it around here. I just have to drag it to move it around. I can take these handles, make it a little bit smaller. We’ll put it right about there. And again, I know I have the wheels outside of the photo. That’s okay because we’ll take Take care of that shortly. Last thing I want to mention is, you’re going to see that this license plate, here’s overtop of Bath, that’s not what I want, I want Beth to be overtop of the license plate, she’s in front of the Jeep. Well, one thing I could do is make the Jeep smaller. But this is just a set of layers. This is why we’re using Pages, because we can layer these like a deck of cards. So now what I want to do is I want to move back in myself to the front and front of the cheap. To do that, all we have to do is just go to our formatting tool here in the upper right hand corner. And then we go over to arrange, and we can arrange how it is from back to front. So let’s go and move this to the front, we can see I have a deck of cards here.
Now it’s in the front. And when we look at it, you’re gonna see that Beth here if I make this a little bit bigger, is in front of the Jeep. So that’s what we want. So now what I’d like to do is add this to my photos app, I also want to make sure that my arm isn’t sticking out here. And my tires are not showing here. How can I do that? Well, basically, all we have to do now is just take a screenshot, we crop it to where these tires aren’t showing, and then we save it to the Photos app. So let’s go and take a screenshot, we have a few different ways to do that, depending on what you have. If you have an iPad that has face, Id use the sleep wake button and the volume up button. If you have one with a home button, I believe you use the sleep wake button and the home button. If you have a keyboard, you can use Command Shift three, just like you do on the Mac. What I’m going to do is use the sleep wake button and the volume up button, watch what happens.
We have my little photo here. Now what I do is I tap on this, it opens up and I go on crop it. So we looked at the subject, pasted it into Pages, move things around, got them arranged. And now all we need to do is just crop it. So I just take this and I crop it to where I want, I’m going to crop my arm out of there. And I take this and I crop it, we’re going to crop the tires out of there. And now I have my photo, the next step is to save it to the Photos app. So let’s go ahead and do that. I just tap on Done in the upper right hand corner. And what you’re gonna see is save two photos. So let’s go save it to my photos app. And now, what I’m able to do when I open up my photos app, I need to go back over to my library. So I’m going to swipe over. And we’re going to go to my library here because it added it to my library. And now we can see we have my new photo there. And this is based off of three different photos. I took Beth and myself out of one the Jeep out of another added to this background. I cropped out my arm as well as the bottom of the tires. And then I added it to my photos app. So that’s how you can lift the subject out of a photo in the Photos app as well as create images or photos with those subjects on the iPad.
