Auto Enhance your Photos and Videos
Learn how to have the Photos app on the Mac auto enhance your photos and videos.
Looking to enhance your photos quickly? Let the Photos app do it for you automatically with Auto Enhance. The Photos app will look at your photo or video and make the necessary adjustments needed to improve your photo. You can use the Auto Enhance as the first step for your editing too! See how Auto Enhance can improve your photos and videos in the Photos app on the Mac in this video.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to take a look at auto enhance in the Photos app on the Mac. With auto enhance, the Photos app will apply its own algorithms to enhance any photos and videos. Let’s see what I mean. Let’s go to my Mac.
Let’s take a look at this photo here. I double click on it to open it up. Now this photo here is a little bit dark. I would like to make it a little bit brighter. Maybe pull some detail out of it. Well, I could do that by making my own adjustments. But in addition to making my own adjustments, I can also have the Photos app do this for me automatically. We can do this with both photos and videos. So how do we do that? We’ll all we have to do is just go to the upper right-hand corner underneath this magic wand. When I click on this, the Photos app is going to take a look at whatever I have selected. In this case, this photo here, it’ll take a look at that photo and then make any adjustments that it deems necessary. So it could bring out more detail, could make the photo brighter, could pop the colors a little bit more.
So now let’s click on this and see what the Photos app decides to do with this. I click on it, and now we can see the colors are a little bit brighter. We actually have a little bit more detail on the clouds. The whole photo is brighter. I’m going to click on this to turn it back off. Take a look at this photo again, or you’re going to see that it is now darker. There is less detail. When we look at these clouds here and I auto enhance it, let’s go ahead and click on auto enhance here, we can see we have more detail or more contrast between those clouds.
Let’s take a look at another photo. I click on the arrow here and let’s go to this photo here. Double click on it. It looks a little bit dull. I know it was a brighter day. Maybe my camera was just not set properly. Well to auto enhance it, we just go up to the upper right-hand corner. I click on the magic wand here, and after a few seconds we can see it made it brighter.
If I no longer want to have it auto enhanced, I can click on this and a removes any enhancements.
Another thing you can do is use this auto enhance as a starting point. When I click on this, and then when I go over to edit, what I’m able to do is further at it. Any adjustments I can take what the Photos app has applied and make further adjustments. So I can use it as a stepping stone to make an adjustment. I’ll talk about adjustments and another lesson. I click on done.
Let’s take a look at a video. I click on the left arrow and now let’s take a look at this video here. This is 17 seconds long. I double click on it. And again, if I want to enhance this, all I have to do is just click on little magic wand here, and now it enhanced that video. So not only can we auto enhance photos, but we can also auto enhance videos. And again, if I wanted to make further adjustments, I can click on edit and I can make further adjustments.
So that’s how we use auto enhance in the Photos app on the Mac. Basically we just select what photo or video we want to enhance. And then we go to the auto enhance button in the toolbar, in the upper right-hand corner. We can also use auto enhance to help us get started on our own adjustments. We first apply auto enhance to have the photos that make any adjustments. And then when we edit the photo, we can further make more Justments.
So that’s how we use auto enhance in the Photos app on the Mac.
