Use Live Text to Copy Text in a Photo
Learn how to select text within a Photo to copy or Translate it.
Did you know you could select text within a Photo? You can then copy it and paste it into a document or note! In addition to selecting text, you can also translate text from one language to another! See how to select text and translate text that is in a photo in this video for photos on the Mac.
Video TranscriptionIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can use live tax to copy or even translate text from a photo in the Photos app on the iPhone. Let’s go to my iPhone. So I’m in my photos app here. And I have some photos on here that have some text. What we’re able to do now since iOS 15, is we’re able to copy this text, we can even translate it, let’s first look at how we can copy it. What I’m going to do is swipe up here, and I have this hot cocoa mix here. This is a photo, what I would like to do is copy this text and put it into a note. Well, all I have to do is just open it up.

So I’m looking at this photo here. And now what I need to do is I just need to select the text, I’m going to zoom in, so I’m going to pinch to zoom in here a little bit. And now I can double tap on a word, or I can just long press on it. So I’m just go into long press on instant here. And now we can see that as selected. All I have to do now is just make my selection larger. And we can see I can copy that recipe. So now I just go up to copy. I open up a note, I’m going to go to my notes app here, we’re going to create a new note. And now I just paste. And there’s my recipe.

Let’s take another look at this. We’re going to go back over to my photos here. And now I’m going to go to another photo. I have this picture of a motorcycle. We can even have the Photos app. Recognize that text. So let’s say I wanted to copy that Harley Davidson attack. All I have to do is just long press on it. And you’re going to see I’m able to copy it. But what about translate, we can do that as well. So I have this photo here of some microphones that I purchased. This is the box of a microphone. So now we have this text or I’d like to translate it. Again, I just long press on the text I want to translate. So I’m going to long press here. And now I just drag my selection over. And then what we do is we go up to translate here. And we can see it says this battery can work for up to seven hours when fully charged. So that’s how we use live text or how we have the photos have recognized live text. Basically all we have to do is just long press on any text, and then we select what we want to copy. We can also translate it, all we have to do is just make our selection and choose from there if we want to copy it or translate it. So that’s how we use live text to recognize, copy and translate text on the iPhone.
