In this video, we’re going to look at how we add security to our database documents in Tap Forms 5 on the Mac. Basically what we can do is we can encrypt our database documents so that it requires a password before we can open up that database document. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I am in my database document here and I want to encrypt this. If we look up at the top in our toolbar, you’re going to see we have lock. What we’re able to do is lock our database document. When we lock it, we’re basically encrypting it. And then if you want to make any changes to it, what you need to do is you need to unlock it. So let’s click on this to lock it and see the steps that we have to go through.
I click on it, it opens up our Preferences and then it goes over to our Security tab. The next thing we need to do is we need to encrypt the document. This is the first step. This is how we lock it. So I click on this. I enter in a password. I have to type it in again. And then I click on encrypt.
Now you want to make sure that you remember this password. You’re not going to be able to get into it if you forget this password.
So I click on Encrypt. It is encrypting that document. Once it finishes, it closes it. And then what I need to do is enter in my password to open it back up. So now I type in my password, and it unlocks it. I want to lock it again. I click on the lock here, it closes it, and again, I need to enter in my password. So let’s go ahead and enter it in one more time. So that’s how we add security tool. We basically encrypt it and then add a password.
Now we do have a couple options when we encrypt our database document, what we can do is have it lock it automatically after a certain amount of time of inactivity, and then we can also use Touch ID. If you have a Mac with Touch ID, you can use touch ID to unlock it. To view these options, we need to go to our Preferences.
So I go up under Tap Forms 5 in the menu bar, and then we go over to our Preferences. We need to make sure that we’re looking at our Security settings. I click on it. And then from here I can set when I want to lock it. So all I have to do is just click on this, and then I enter in how long before it is encrypted. So let’s just go with five minutes. And now after five minutes of inactivity, this database document is going to close and then I’m going to have to unlock it.
Now I can unlock it with Touch ID. All I have to do is just select this, I have a Mac with Touch ID, and now when this database document locks, I can unlock it by using Touch ID. I do not have to type in the password.
If you no longer want to have a password on it, if you no longer want to have a lock, all you have to do is just click on Decrypt Document. I type in the password. Again, it decrypts it, it closes it back down and opens it back up. And now it will no longer require password to open it up.
So that’s how we add security to our database documents in Tap Forms 5 on the Mac. Basically what we’re doing is we’re encrypting the document and adding a password. To do that we just click on the lock icon in the toolbar. We click on Encrypt and add a password. Once we add that password, Tap Forms 5 will encrypt it, close down that database document, and then from there what we need to do is enter in the password. To unlock it, again, we have a couple of options. We can have it close automatically after so many minutes of inactivity. And then we can also set it to use Touch ID. If you no longer want to lock it, you just open up your Preferences for Tap Forms 5, go to Security and then click on Encrypt.
So that’s how we add security to our database documents in Tap Forms 5 on the Mac.
