Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to take a look at the chart view we have available to us in Tap Forms 5. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I’m looking at My Albums here, and within each record each album I have a couple of fields that keep track of when the album was released as well as what my rating was. So we can see here that this album Natural High from Commodores was released in 1978. And I gave it three stars, while this album here Daryl Hall and John Oates H2O, we can see it was released in 1982 and I gave it four stars. Now, what I would like to do is chart this out. When I chart it out, what I’m able to do is see which years I gave the highest ratings are, which years I gave the albums that I have the highest ratings.
How do we do that? Well, we have to first set up Tap Forms 5. I have my two fields here. I have my year, which is a number field. We do need to have the setup as a number field. And then I also have rating. You can use pretty much any number of field, a rating is a number one through five. So I had my two fields set up.
Now, what I need to do is go to my Chart View here in the toolbar. I click on it and I’m looking at my Chart View. Now this isn’t going to make sense yet. The first thing we need to do now is set what our X axis field is as well as our series field. So I want my X axis field to be the year. To change it all I would do is just click on this and select what field I want. I’m going to keep it a year. So my years are going to be down at the bottom here. I want my series field, which is over here on the left. I want my series field to be my rating. So when I go over here to select, I click on it and I make sure that I have rating selected.
So now I have my X axis set up for the year and my series set up for my rating. Now we’re not finished yet. If we look here, my year, I have 1974 here and I have 1974 over here. What I need to do is I need to group these together. How do we do that? Well,we just go back over to our Form. And then when we’re looking at our form here, you’re going to see Group Records By, I have it grouped by artist. I need to group them by year, so all of the albums within a specific year, are grouped together. So I click on this and I go to Year. Let’s go ahead and close this. When I do that, if I go over to Show Group Summaries here, what it’s going to do is it’s going to group all of my years together. So then what I’m able to do is view all of my albums group together by year, see all the ratings grouped together by year. So now let’s select this and see what I mean. I click on it.
And now you can see, in the early seventies I gave albums a little lower rating, but then as we move on through the decades or through the years, when we got into the eighties here, I gave them a higher rating, particularly in the late eighties.
If you want to see the values, you can also click on Show Values and it’ll show the values of the ratings. Now, if you do want to change your chart, you can change it to a bar chart as well as a pie chart, let’s go and change this to a bar chart. And now we can see it as a bar chart. I prefer the line chart.
So that’s a look at our Chart View and Tap Forms 5. You just go up to Chart View in the tool bar, and then you set your X axis, as well as your series field. You can also show your values. And if you want to group your different fields together, you click on Show Group Summaries. You do need to go into your form, and select how you want to have your fields grouped.
So that’s a look at the Chart View in Tap Forms 5 on the Mac.
