Translate a Website’s Language
Learn how to translate a website from another language to your preferred language.
Did you know that Safari could translate websites for you? This was introduced with iOS 14. Now when you visit a website that is not in your preferred language, you can have Safari translate it for you. In this video, I translate Telemundo from Spanish to English. See how this woks in this video on translating websites in Safari on the iPhone.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at how we can translate websites and Safari on the iPhone. This is a new feature that was added with IO 14. Let’s go to my iPhone.
Now, as I mentioned in the introduction, we can now have Safari translate websites from one language to another. Basically, what you’ll do is you’ll set your preferred language, and then, if the website is not in that preferred language, we can translate it.
So how do we set what our preferred language is? Well, the first thing we need to do is we need to go to our Settings app. So I’m going to swipe over to the left, and now I’m going to open up Settings. Now, what I need to do is I need to go to General. Under General is going to be an option for Language and Region. This is where you can set what your default language is; in my case, it is English. So now, if I visit a website that is not in English, I can translate it into English.
Let’s see how this works in Safari. I swipe up, and now I go over to Safari. I’m at the website, Telemundo; this is in Spanish. Let’s go and tap on this article here. We can see that the entire article here is in Spanish. I want to translate this. In order to translate it, what we do is we go back up to the top here, tap on it, and then we go over to our double-A’s. Under the double A’s is going to be Translate to English, English being my preferred language. I tap on it. And now we can see it translated into English.
To go back to the other language, in my case, Spanish here, I go back up to the upper left-hand corner, tap on it, and then you’re going to see View Original. Tap on that, and now it is back in its original language.
So that’s how Safari can translate a website for us. Basically can translate a website from another language to our preferred language. To set what your preferred languages you go to settings, go to General, and then you’ll see language. From there, you can set why you preferred language is. When you visit a website that is not in that preferred language, all you have to do is just go up to the top, tap on the double A’s, and from there, you’re going to see an option to translate the website.
So that’s how we can translate websites in Safari on the iPhone.
