Pin your Conversations
Learn how to pin your conversations for easy access in the Messages app on the Mac.
Apple introduced the ability to pin your conversations in the Messages app on the Mac with macOS Big Sur. You may be familiar with this feature on the iPhone and iPad. When you pin a conversation, the Messages app places above all the other conversations so you have easy access to it. See how to pin your conversations in the Messages app on the Mac in this video.

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can pin a conversation in the Messages app on the Mac. This feature was introduced with macOS Big Sur. Let’s go to my Mac.
Let’s go and open up my Messages app here. When we’re looking at our conversations here, what we’re able to do now with macOS Big Sur, is pin conversations. When we pin a conversation, what it’ll do is it’ll place that conversation at the top of all of your other conversations. So you always have easy access to it.
How do we pin a conversation? Well, all we have to do is just control-click on the conversation, so if I hold down the control key while I click on this conversation, I get a little menu that pops up, and you’re going to see Pin. I select this, and it pins my conversation. It’s always going to be at the top of my conversation list. Let’s go and pin this conversation here. I control-click on it and select pin. When I do that, we can see that this conversation is now pinned as well.
Even if we reduce the size of our sidebar, if we go over to our sidebar here, we can see that we can change the size of it. If we reduce it, we can still see we have my pinned conversations above all of my other conversations. I’m going to bring this back, so we have our sidebar. To unpin a conversation, all we have to do is just control-click on it again, and then you’re going to see unpin, and then it underpins it.
So that’s how we pin conversations and macOS. This feature was introduced with macOS Big Sur. All we have to do is just control-click on the conversation we want to pin, and then select Pin and the menu that pops up. To unpin a conversation, we just control-click on it again, and then you’re going to see Unpin.
So that’s how we pin conversations in the Messages app on the Mac.
