Forget Troublesome Networks on the Mac, iPad, and iPhone
Learn how to forget networks, and why you may want to forget networks, on the Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
If you are having an issue with a specific network, one of the troubleshooting tips you can use to reconnect is to forget the network. In a lot of cases, when you connect back up, any network issues are resolved… and it’s easy to do. In this video I show you how to forget networks on the Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
Video TranscriptionIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can forget networks that we no longer want our Mac, iPad or iPhone to keep track of, you may want to do this, if you’re having a problem with a network, just forget it and rejoin it. Or maybe that network is no longer available, you just want to remove it all together. Let’s see how we do this on the Mac, iPad and iPhone, we’re first going to look at this on the Mac, let’s go into my Mac. In order to forget any networks that your Mac has connected to, what you need to do is go to your System Preferences. So I go up underneath the Apple menu, and then we go over to our System Preferences. From here, what we need to do is go over to network.

When I click on Network, I go over to advanced, under Advanced, you’re going to see all of your networks here that you’ve connected to. So Moonstone here, this is a network that I no longer need to connect to, I just want to remove it, all I have to do is just click on it. And then I click on the minus here. And what it will do is it’ll remove it. And now that network is no longer in my back. So that’s how we do it with a Mac. Now it works a little bit different on the iPad and iPhone, the only way that you can forget a network that you’ve connected to is if you are currently connected to it, you will not be able to forget networks that you’ve connected to in the past, you have to currently be connected to it. So let’s go over to my iPad and iPhone and take a look, we’re first going to look at it on the iPad. I go over to my settings app.

And then what we do is we go over to Wi Fi. From here, what we need to do is we need to connect to that network. So if I wanted to forget notebook, what I do is I would connect to it. And then we go over to the eye here. And I can forget this network. That’s the only way that you can do it on the iPad. And the iPhone works the same way. If I go over to my iPhone here, and I go over to my settings app, and then we go over to Wi Fi. Again, I tap on the eye in the upper right hand corner here. And then I can forget that network. So I have to connect to it first, and then I can forget it. On the Mac, we can forget networks that we’ve connected to in the past. Now again, why would we want to do this? Well, if you’re having a problem with the network, what you may want to do is reconnect up to it, you forget it, and then you reconnect, you will need the password to reconnect.

On the Mac. We do this through System Preferences. And then we go over to our network settings and then go over to advanced. From there we can see all of our networks that we’ve connected to just select the network you want to forget and click on the minus sign and then you can connect back up to it on the iPad and iPhone we have to go into the Settings app we can only forget networks that we are currently connected to. So what we do is we connect up to that network and then tap on the eye and from there, we’re able to forget that network. If you’re having a problem with it, what you can do is then reconnect up to it and hopefully that will resolve any issues. So that’s how you can forget networks that you may be having a problem with on the Mac, iPad and iPhone
