Video TranscriptLet’s take a look at one of my favorite apps Paste on the Mac. Let’s first look at how we install Paste and send it up on our Mac. Let’s go to my Mac. The way that we get paced is through the app store. It is in the app store. So what we need to do is go down. My doc here, I have the app store on my dock.
And then what we do is we search for Paste. This is a paid app. It is not a free app, but I find it very useful. You’re going to see it over here on the right. It’s the one with the orange. I have it already purchased. So let’s just go ahead and install it. So I just click on the little download arrow here, and it’s going to install it in my applications folder.
It’s a relatively small app, so it won’t take long. So now we have it installed. I could just click on open here, but what I want to do is close the app store, and now we’re just going to go into my applications folder. So I just go up under, go here and then we go over to application. You’re going to see, I have paced here.
So now when I install this, what it’s going to do is run in the background. We want it to run in the background. We also wanted to start when we log into our computer. So it’s always running. Now, if it’s running in the background, how do you get access to all of the preferences and things like that? Well, what it does is it puts a little menu icon in the menu bar up here.
This is how we’re going to access. When we need to access the preferences and things like that. So now I’m going to double-click on this and now let’s go ahead and close this window. You’re going to see that I have this little P here. This is the Paste icon. You can also see that it is not in the. So, what it does is it runs in the background and it just puts it into the menu bar.
So how do we get at our clipboard? I’ve already copied a few things. I want to view that clipboard. I want to set it up. Well, one way of doing that is just by going up to the P here and then clicking on it and you can see, we have my clipboard. I’ll talk about that in a little bit, but also what you can do is use a keyboard shortcut command shift.
And it comes up. So we don’t always have to go to that menu bar. All right. So we’re going to talk about how we set it up first to set it up. What we need to do is go down to these three little dots here. When I click on this, we have preferences. This is where we want to go. So I click on it and now we have my preference window here.
We have a few different options here. I’m not going to go through all of them. I’m just going to go over some of them. So the first thing you’ll want to do is make sure that it starts. When you log into your Mac than it is always running in the background, you can also enable direct Paste. I would have this turned down this way.
When you copy something, it automatically goes into Paste. We also have enabled link previews. So when you are looking at all of your clipboards, if it’s a link, you can actually see what page that was. So it gives you a nice little preview. And then we also have enable sound effects and show Paste icon in the menu bar.
I like to have those on it. And then the last thing is, is we can set our history capacity. How far back do you want to keep your history? You can keep it for unlimited, but what I like to do is I like to set mine for a month. I think this is actually how to set by default for a month. So now we have a kind of setup.
We can also set what the shortcuts are. Remember how I said command shift V was how we get to our Paste. This is where we can set all that. So you can set it for your own keyboard commands. I just like to leave them as default. We also have rules. It’s really just basically one rule. Who do we not want to save history for?
So it’s not going to save any history for key chain access. You can add any app in here that you want. If you do not want to save any keyboard history. So let’s say or clipboard history. So let’s say you use a browser, a specific browser that you do not want to keep any copies are linked. You can add that in here by clicking on the plus.
And then when you’re using that browser, any links that you copy will not be copied into Paste. We also have. This is available on the Mac, the iPad and the iPhone. So when this is enabled, it’ll sync across all your different devices. Let’s just go ahead and turn this on. And then we have subscription. I do have a subscription to it.
I think it’s a pretty good app. So I did subscribe. So this is where you can set all that up and manage your subscriptions. So as you can see, it’s pretty straightforward how to set it up.
So now that we have it set up installed, Let’s take a look at how we use Paste. Let’s go back over to my Mac. Let’s go and open up a browser window and let’s copy a few things. So I’m going to go down to safari here and we’re just going to copy a few different things. Let’s just go to my site here and we’re going to go to let’s see Johnny.
Glass wound on keynote. Let’s say I wanted to copy a few things from here. Well, all I need to do is just copy it. Just like normal. I want a copy of the word class here. All I have to do is just command C. It doesn’t change how you copy anything off of the Mac. So I command C so there’s class. Let’s just keep going.
We’re going to copy a few different things here. I’m going to copy the next word on command C and then create. And instead of using command C I can also go up to edit here and then we go over to copy and we’re going to do one more presentations. So I’m copying basically four or five words, double. And command C and a copy of it.
So I just copied like four or five words. Now the normal behavior of the Mac is it would not keep that clipboard history. It only saves the last thing that you copied. Well, let’s say I wanted to Paste the word class here. Well, like I said, the normal behavior of the man, cause that is long gone. Now it only keeps track of the last thing that you copied.
But now with Paste, watch what happens. I’m going to go command shift V it’s my favorite way of pulling it up. And you can see here, we have class on creating presentations, so a copied every. Now, what I’m able to do is use any one of these and Paste it. So let’s go up to my URL here and I want to Paste one of those things, command shift V.
And then all I have to do is, so let’s go with class here. I just double click and we can see a put class up here. That’s the basic use of Paste. As you can see, you can go back and select anything from the past. I just scroll back here and I can select any one of those. I can also control click on this.
If I hold down the control key and click, I have a few options. I can Paste this into safari. I can Paste this as plain text, so it removes any formatting. I can also delete this. So let’s say I no longer want to have this in my clipboard history. I can delete it and then we can also pin it. And I’ll talk about that shortly.
So let’s go and take a look. The name here. This is called text. What we can do is we can name this. Let’s say I wanted to have this be creating. So I just click in here. And now I creating, if I had a link, I believe I have a link in here as you can see, I was playing around with it. So here’s a link to Paste the website.
I want to save this right now. It’s calling it link because it’s a link. I want to save this as something else. Oops. Let’s go on command shift. What I do is I click in here and then I can rename it. So this is a link to Paste.com.
So now it’ll remember that as pace.com at least for the last month, because have it suffered 30 days. So that’s the basic use of Paste, but we can do more with it. What we can do is manage our clipboards. We can save them into different folders. So then they won’t be deleted. After 30 days, these folders are called pin boards.
Let’s see how we do that. Let’s go back over to. So now what I want to do is I want to save some of these clips that I have. I want to save them into folders. So then I can easily access them. Well, let’s go back over to our Paste command shift. V we have my Paste here. You’re going to see up towards the top above my pay spot.
I have clipboard history. This is my clipboard history. So I can swipe through here and view all of my clipboard history over the last 30 days. But we also have useful links. I have marketing and then I can even create my own pin boards. These are what we call pin boards. And then what we’re able to do is place any one of these clipboards into one of those pin boards.
And then we can access that at a later date. It’s not going to be removed after 30 days. So if you have links that you’d like to keep, that you need to use on a regular basis or texts that you need to use on a regular basis, where you’re able to do is create your pin boards for whatever your. And then all you have to do is just drag that clipboard that you want into that Pinboard.
So let’s put this into my useful links. So now I just click and drag. Whoops. Wanted to rename it there. I click and drag and you’re going to see, I have the green plus there when I let go and moved it into useful links. Now, if we look here that useful links is red, and if we look at. It changed the banner to read.
So we can see that this is part of my useful links to view all of them, all of the clipboards in a Pinboard you just click on it. And now I can see all of the clipboards that are in this Pinboard let’s take a look at what we have in marketing. These are set up by Paste. I click on marketing and we can see, we have.
Let’s go and add a new one. I click on the plus and let’s just call this one, text a control, click on it and hit and rename. We’ll just call this text. I want to change the color I got control-click on it. And then I can change the color. So we’re going to go with green. And now we can see that as green.
So anything that I put in this one is going to be green. So let’s go ahead and do that. I go to my clipboard history. This is simple text. Well, actually, let’s go with this one here, creating I click and drag. We have the green plus and we can see it turned. So now in addition to keeping our clipboard history, we can also place them into folders are what Paste calls, pin boards.
So that’s how we can manage our clipboards and even save them into different folders or pin boards. We can also search our pen boards, our clipboards. It does have a pretty good search in it. So let’s go back over to my Mac and take a look at how we see. I’m going to actually just get out of here and we’re going to start from scratch here.
I want to open up Paste. I use the command shift V command, key shift key, and the V key, it pulls up. And now what I want to do is I want to search, how do we search this? Well, all you have to do is just go command F hold down the command key and the F key, and we can see, we have. You will notice that that does not show initially command shift V I do not have a search.
I do have a magnifying glass here. I could click on that, but I find it easiest to just use command F I want to find that text that’s called creating. So I just type in here creating, and you can see it just pulled that up. So we have a pretty good search in here and it’ll narrow it down as you start talking.
You’re going to see that it also pulled up create here because I have create, but as soon as I start narrowing it down, it moves it away. Now, all I need to do is just control. Click on. And I can copy it and Paste it into whatever. Or if I know where I’m going to Paste it, I place my cursor where I want to Paste it.
And then I can double click on it and it’ll Paste it in there. We can use links. We can use images. We can use text, basically anything that can be saved in the clipboard will be saved in Paste. So that’s how we can easily search. The last thing I want to cover is sinking. We can sync our clipboards and even share.
So let’s go back over to my Mac. We kind of saw how this was set up. It’s pretty simple. There’s one setting for it is syncs using iCloud. So as long as you’re signed into all of your other devices, what you will be able to do is share your clipboard history and your folders. There are pin boards and everything else with Paste.
So we have to turn that iCloud sinking on. So I’m going to go command shift V we go back over to our three dots where we have more and we have our preference. Select it. And then we go over to sync and we enable iCloud sync. You can also synchronize. Now you can see it was sinked three minutes ago. Let’s just make sure that it is synchronized and now it is synchronized.
So pretty simple to set up. We can also share. So let’s go command shift V. I want to share this with someone. If I control-click. You’re going to see Cher. And from here, what I’m able to do is share it with anyone. I can send it as a message, mail, airdrop notes. It’s only going to share that one clipboard, but it does make it easy to share something that you copied with someone else.
So let’s say I have a link that I want to share with Beth. I can go back in my clipboard history or it can even go to my one, one of my pin boards and then. That clipboard with Beth, just by control, clicking on it, hold down the control key and click, and you’re going to see share. So I sync to this with my iPad.
I’m going to have a different video on how the source of the iPad and the iPhone, but basically it works the same way on the iPad and the iPhone is the features do carry over to the other devices. So I have these links or these clipboards. These are called clipboards. I have these all in Paste. Let’s go over to my iPad.
Let me open this up here a minute. We’re going to go over to my iPad here and now you’re going to see, I have Paste here in my doc. It does not run in the background on the iPad. Again, I’m going to have a separate video on this, but I just want to show you that it does carry over your history. So I click on Paste.
And when we go to our clipboard history, we can see, we have all of the things that I just copied. I copied these from my Mac or on my Mac, and now they’re on my iPad. So what I’m able to do is use any one of these on my iPad. So that’s a look at Paste on the Mac, basically with Paste. What we’re able to do is keep a clipboard.
We can save clipboards into different folders. We can synchronize our clipboards with all of our other devices and we can also share clipboards with other. This is an app from the app store Mac app store. And you do have to download it. I believe they have a free version. It doesn’t do much, or maybe it’s a demo I would recommend if you like it, try the demo.
And if you like it, you know, pay for the app. I think it’s pretty good. I pay for it. It’s not that much money. And I believe it’s just one price and it covers all of the different devices. It does run on an M one Mac as well as the Intel max. And then it also runs on your iPads and your iPhone. So that’s one of my favorite apps Paste in how it works on the Mac.
