Download Audio and Video Files

In this video, I’m going to show you how you can download media files, such as audio files or video files, with Safari on the iPhone. Let’s go to my iPhone.

So I am at this webpage here, and if we look you’re going to see I have an audio file, and then I also have a video file. If I were to tap on either one of these, it would open up and I could either listen to it or watch it.

What I would like to do is download these to my to how do we download media files who are iPhone? Well, it’s pretty simple, but before I show you how it works, I first want to say this will not work with all videos, all audio files. As an example, this will not work with YouTube videos. Why? Because they are streaming. This does not work with streaming audio and streaming video files.

So how will you know if you can download it or not? Well, all you need to do is just tap and hold on it. So I’m going to tap and hold on my video file here. The video will start playing and then you’re going to see an option to Download the Linked File.

This will only show if you can download the file. So, if you were to try this with a YouTube video, you would not have this option. So that’s how you can easily see if you’re able to download it or not. Just long press or tap and hold, look for the Download Linked File. If you see that, you can download it.

So now let’s download this and see how this all works. I download it. We can see it as downloading here, and now when I tap on this we can see that it downloaded it.

So where did it download it to? Well, by default, it downloads it to your Downloads folder on your iPhone. So what we need to do is we need to go to our Files app. So I’m going to swipe up and you’re going to see I have my Files app here. I tap on it and then you’re going to see Downloads. What do you think you’re going to see when I tap on that? My video file.

Let’s take a look at how we do this with an audio file. It works the same way. So I’m going to go back over to Safari here. I want to download this audio file. How do I know if I can download it? Well all you do is just tap and hold on it or long press on it, and if you see the option to download it, tap on that, and it downloads it. Again, I tap on the download icon. We can see that it downloaded it.

If I want to open this up in the Files app, I just go over to the magnifying glass, tap on it, and it opens up to the Files app. And I can see both of those files that I downloaded. Again, a downloaded them to my Downloads folder. To see the downloads folder, you just tap on Browse and then you can see your Downloads.

So that’s how you download audio and video files on the iPhone. This will not work with streaming audio and video files like YouTube, but this will work in cases where the link is connected to the actual file. How will you know if you can download it? Well you just tap and hold on the link to open up that video or open up that audio file. If you see the option to download it, tap it, and it’ll download it to your iPhone. Where does it download it to? It downloads it to your Downloads folder, which you can find in their Files app.
