In this video, I will show you how you can use your space bar to unmute your microphone when you’re in a Zoom meeting. When you’re in a meeting and your microphone is muted with this little trick, and you want to speak, instead of clicking on the unmute button, all you have to do is just press the space bar. When you are done speaking, you just let go of the space bar, and your microphone will be muted again. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my Mac.
So I am in Zoom here. The first thing we need to do is we need to enable this feature. So what we need to do is go to our Zoom Preferences. So I go up to Zoom in the menu bar, and then we go over to Preferences. From here, we have a new window that opens up. Now what we need to do is make sure that we’re looking at our Audio Preferences. You’re going to see an option for Press and Hold Space Key to Temporarily Unmute down towards the bottom. This is what we need to turn on or select. So let’s go ahead and select it.
The next thing I would do is I would select Mute my Mic when Joining a Meeting. Let’s go ahead and select that.
So now what’s going to happen when I join a meeting my microphone will be muted. If I need to speak, all I have to do is press my space bar, and my microphone will unmute. When I am finished, I let go of the space bar, and my microphone will be muted again.
So now, let’s close this, and let’s go and create a new meeting. You’re going to see; let’s go ahead and move this in the center here; you’re going to see that my microphone is muted. Because I selected that mute. Now, what I’m going to do is press the space bar and watch what happens here. I press the space bar. We can see it as un-muted. I let go of the space-bar. It’s now muted.
You’re also going to see an indication at the bottom of the display or the bottom of Zoom’s app. So now I go over to the center here. I press a space bar, we have temporarily un-muted. So now everyone can hear me in this meeting. I let go of the space bar; it is now muted again.
So that is how we can use the space bar to unmute our microphone when we’re in a Zoom meeting. We first have to turn this feature on. We do this through Zoom’s Preferences under audio. I would also recommend turning on mute my microphone. When I join the meeting, when you join a meeting, your microphone will be muted automatically, and when you need to speak, you just hold down the space bar and your microphone be un-muted. Let go of the space bar; you’ll be back to muting your microphone.
So that’s how we can use the space bar to unmute our microphone when we’re in a Zoom meeting.
