Why?\n00:33:22 – My Messages aren’t syncing. Why?\n00:34:50 – I can’t delete an email in my Junk folder. Why?\n00:36:46 – I want my Messages to to my Phone only. How?\n00:40:06 – How Does VPN Work on an iPad?\n00:52:23 – What is Setapp?\n00:54:34 – General Q&A\n01:05:30 – Wrap Up\n\nSummary\nWritten by ai and may contain inaccuracies. \n\nAddressing Website Issues and Apple Announcement\nThe meeting started out with a discussion on Apple’s recent product announcement\, with a focus on the emphasis on artificial intelligence and the need for users to upgrade to access new features. Lastly\, they discussed the strategic implications of these changes and had a Q&A session on WWDC\, with Dan leading the discussion and encouraging support for his tutorial videos. \n\n\nApple Intelligence and AI Apps Discussion\nDan discussed Apple’s shift towards AI\, known as ‘Apple Intelligence’\, and its implications for app developers. He highlighted the integration of AI into the OS for improved processing and privacy protection\, and revealed Apple’s partnership with ChatGPT and potential future collaborations with Google and others. Due to the EU’s strict privacy laws\, Apple would not immediately roll out this feature in the EU. Dan also demonstrated the functionality of an AI app he uses\, which improves responses by understanding the user’s context and identity\, and explained a new technology that uses AI to provide expert assistance based on user profiles. The discussion also touched on the evolution of AI\, with a focus on neural networks\, and the potential for AI to learn users’ personal preferences to offer more relevant results. \n\n\nAI Integration and Apple’s Privacy Policy\nMichael and Dan discussed the integration of AI with Apple’s privacy policy. Dan clarified that Apple’s AI feature\, coming with their new iOS 18\, does not compromise user privacy as Apple is committed to keeping users’ data secure. He added that the new AI feature would not be available on older devices due to processing limitations\, and users would need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer to access it. Dan also compared Apple’s strategy with its previous focus on a single app\, like the iPhone\, and its impact on other app development. Lastly\, he mentioned the upcoming update to the mail program with AI features\, but noted that this feature would not be available until the fall. \n\n\nPivot Tables\, Categories\, and Safari Tips\nDan instructed Bob on how to use pivot tables\, specifically explaining how to categorize data effectively. He demonstrated how to add categories like age range and decade of birth for easier grouping and counting of individuals in each category. Michael and Paul provided input\, emphasizing the importance of understanding the age distribution. Additionally\, Dan shared a tip from his colleague\, Alyce\, about solving Safari’s issue with certain websites by turning off extensions before resorting to deleting the browser cache or history. The team also briefly discussed their preferences between Safari and Chrome. \n\n\nSafari vs Chrome Comparison and Testing Recommendations\nDan provided a detailed comparison between Safari and Google Chrome\, highlighting their respective strengths and weaknesses\, with a focus on performance\, battery usage\, and privacy. He suggested that users considering Chrome should explore alternatives like Edge for better efficiency and battery consumption. Ward expressed a concern about website developers not testing their sites on Safari\, prompting Dan to recommend testing websites across different browsers to avoid errors. The topic of Apple Pay versus Google Pay was left open for further discussion. \n\n\nAddressing Automatic Email Archiving Issue\nDan addressed an issue with emails being automatically archived instead of being deleted when marked as trash on Todd’s iPhone. He highlighted that this could be due to the settings of Todd’s email account and provided a detailed walkthrough on how to adjust these settings. Dan clarified the difference between archiving and deleting emails\, emphasizing that the former keeps the emails indefinitely while the latter removes them after 30 days. He also stressed that the archiving process happens on the email service provider’s server\, not on the user’s device or in iCloud. Finally\, he advised testing the settings by deleting an email to see whether it is archived or deleted as per the setup. \n\n\niPad Document Saving and Folder Management\nDan clarified to Kevin that on an iPad\, newly created documents are automatically saved in their respective app folders\, such as Pages\, Numbers\, or Microsoft Word. However\, users can move these files to other folders if needed\, using the Files app. This was a change implemented by Apple to allow users more control over their documents\, as opposed to the earlier approach where documents could only be saved within their respective app. Dan demonstrated this process using the Pages app and explained that initial document creation occurs through the app itself. \n\n\nTransferring Video Files to iPad and Storage\nKevin and Dan discussed the process of transferring video files from external drives to an iPad. Dan guided Kevin through the steps of accessing and downloading files from Dropbox to the iPad via the Files app\, making the process easier. They also discussed the organization of data storage on iPads\, with Dan explaining that the iPad’s internal storage functions as a separate hard drive while cloud services like iCloud\, Dropbox\, and Onedrive provide additional storage. Dan clarified that hidden files can’t be accessed directly on the iPad and suggested using a third-party app to view them. They also discussed the need for Kevin to have Dropbox installed on his iPad and logged in to access his files. \n\n\nSite Transfer and AirPods Troubleshooting \n\nDan shared his plan to transfer a site to a new server and expected the one-to-ones to be operational again in a couple of weeks after resolving current issues. There was a discussion about the occasional static noise issue with AirPods\, which Dan and Chrys both experienced. Dan suggested replacing the AirPods\, but no clear solution was found. He proposed troubleshooting methods including unpairing and re-pairing\, and restoring to factory settings. Bob brought up the importance of updating the AirPods’ firmware\, which Dan confirmed as crucial and could be done automatically via the Apple AirPods software. Dan committed to sharing a link to assist with checking for the latest firmware version. \n\n\n\nAI Resources for Pass Keys and Tutorials \n\nDan shared his method of utilizing AI to find various resources on pass keys\, including Apple’s support\, Fido\, The Verge\, Google Security\, and Microsoft Azure. He also emphasized that the best explanation of pass keys is subjective\, and he found The Verge and TechRadar to be useful sources.
