Any do’s or do nots?\n00:56:07 – How do I add Date Stamps to Photos?\n01:01:26 – Next Event: Behind the Scenes of my Setup\n\n  \nSummary of AMA\nThis AI-generated summary may contain inaccuracies. It is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered authoritative. Please consult the original presentation for accuracy. \nDan Shares Apple Tutorials\, iPhone 15 Impressions & Small Business \nDan\, who has been creating video tutorials for Apple software for about 10 years\, conducted an AMA session where he shared that he and his wife\, Susan G. Coleman\, run a small business from their home. He encouraged viewers to check out his tutorials on Youtube or his website. Dan also mentioned that he plans to do a behind-the-scenes video next week and will revisit a question about adding date stamps to photos at a later point. He discussed his initial impressions of the iPhone 15\, which he received a week prior. While he noted the phone’s 5 times optical zoom\, slightly improved from his iPhone 14’s 3 times optical zoom\, he found the difference not significant due to Apple’s improved camera technology across devices. Dan also appreciated the iPhone 15’s rounded edges and lighter feel\, but couldn’t provide more extensive feedback due to unfavorable weather and limited usage. \nSyncing Messages Across Apple’s Ecosystem and Android Devices \nDan discussed the syncing of messages across all devices\, especially between Apple’s ecosystem and SMS\, which is limited and doesn’t work well with Android devices. He explained the process of syncing the messages app across different Apple devices through enabling messages in the cloud in the settings app and ensuring that the messages app syncs with iCloud. Dan clarified that this synchronization would allow messages to be received on all linked devices\, including the iPad and Mac\, but noted that for messages to be received on these devices\, they must be sent to a phone number associated with them. He guided the team through the process of setting up their devices\, emphasizing the importance of certain settings such as message reception and text message forwarding. \nSMS Configurations and VPN Instructions \nDan emphasized the need for properly configuring new devices to receive messages\, particularly regarding SMS communications. He guided Bob on how to resolve an issue he had been experiencing\, where new devices were not appearing on the list or had the green check or slider turned off. Dan also provided Kevin with instructions on how to enable Express VPN on his iPad and windows computer for his travel. He demonstrated the use of the VPN app\, explaining its benefits and ease of use. Despite initial confusion\, Dan confirmed successful usage of ExpressVPN on his devices. \nClean My Mac: A RAM and File Management Solution \nDan provided an overview of the software ‘Clean My Mac’ by Mecp\, which he recommended for its ability to clear RAM and remove large files. He explained that the software also allows users to delete their web browsing history and manage extensions. Dan also mentioned that while the software is beneficial\, the user’s Mac already has built-in weekly and monthly schedules for maintenance tasks. \nHistory Management and Cookie Misconceptions \nDan discussed his approach to browsing history management\, stating that he only clears it when having problems and never on a monthly basis. He explained that deleting the history erases past visits that could be beneficial for revisiting later. Dan also addressed the topic of cookie removal\, suggesting it’s unnecessary as cookies are a standard part of web browsing and are critical for maintaining user identity across visits. He clarified that cookies are one-way streets\, with a website placing a cookie on the user’s computer to remember their login\, and the cookie cannot be shared with other websites or utilized to gather private information. Dan took control of the meeting by muting everyone to reduce background noise. He encouraged participants to interrupt him with questions or use the chat feature. Dan also discussed cookies\, stating they are not necessary to delete and he has never done so himself. \nSafari Preferred Over Chrome for Efficiency and Compatibility \nDan prefers Safari as his default browser due to its efficiency and compatibility with Mac devices. He appreciates its speed and battery-saving capabilities. However\, he acknowledges that Safari lacks the extensive range of extensions offered by Google Chrome. Despite this\, Dan uses Safari for most of his browsing needs\, and he uses Google Chrome only when necessary\, primarily for managing his YouTube channel. He also mentions the recent addition of profiles in Safari as an improvement. \nDan’s Gym Setup and Google Authentication Issues \nDan shared his recent experiences with setting up a new gym and some issues he encountered with Google authentication. He found that his ad blockers in Safari were causing a problem\, which was resolved by turning them off. Dan also discussed his preferred search engine\, noting that he often uses Google\, but also likes DuckDuckGo for its Bing-based results. He shared a tip for using Google as a fallback option when DuckDuckGo doesn’t deliver the desired results. Lastly\, he addressed a question about the viability of Super Duper as a backup software\, although the transcript doesn’t provide any conclusive information about this. \nBackup and Cloning Software Discussion \nDan and Ward discussed the use of backup and cloning software for their computers. Dan recommended Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner\, both of which he has used and found to be reliable. However\, Ward experienced issues with Super Duper not being able to access the backup drive at night\, which was eventually solved after some unidentified updates. Dan explained that Apple’s updates have made it increasingly difficult for these software companies to operate due to heightened security measures. Despite this\, both Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner are still effective tools for backing up and cloning data. \niPhone Transfer and App Advice \nDan and David discussed setting up a new iPhone\, with Dan advising that the quickest method involves using iCloud\, although this means some apps may not be immediately available. Dan recommended leaving the new and old iPhones next to each other for a faster transfer of data. George added that using a USB-C to Ethernet adapter can significantly speed up the process\, especially for larger files like apps. He also cautioned against using the ‘Erase and Restore’ feature in iMazing\, as it can erase email. David agreed to follow these steps overnight. \nPhone Simulation and Photo Timestamping \nDavid inquired about using two phones simultaneously before returning the old one to AT&T. Dan clarified that the old phone could not be used for calls after the Esim transfer to the new phone\, but it could be manually deleted. Dan instructed David to erase all content and settings from the old phone\, ready for return. Dan also provided a tutorial on how to add date stamps to photos using various apps on the iPad and iPhone\, with the key being the term “timestamp”. He recommended the app “Date Stamper”\, which allows users to select multiple photos\, customize their design and layout\, and add captions. For next week\, Dan plans to demonstrate how he manages to switch between different devices and software during his presentations using a foot pedal and special software.

SUMMARY:Reminders and Calendar: Working together in GoodTask
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation I shared how I use the robust task management app GoodTask to organize my Apple Reminders and Calendar events. I highlighted key features of GoodTask including customizable task views\, deep Reminders integration\, and powerful options to tailor the interface and task parameters to each user’s preferences. I also explained key benefits I’ve noticed like improved task visibility leading to increased productivity. The presentation led to an engaging Q&A where attendees asked excellent questions about cross-device task management that showcased GoodTask’s extensive capabilities\, many of which I’m still working to leverage in my own workflows. While I couldn’t answer every question given the app’s vast customization and functions\, it was a worthwhile discussion into how GoodTask enriches task tracking across Apple devices. I hope you find it helpful! \nChapters: \n\n00:00 – Introduction\n01:36 – GoodTask Benefits\n02:25 – A Quick Look at Apple Reminders\n06:49 – A Quick Look at Apple Calendar\n08:00 – Calendar Focused Solutions – BusyCal and Fantastical\n09:45 – Task Focused Solution – GoodTask\n10:33 – GoodTask on the Mac\n12:49 – GoodTask on the iPad\n14:18 – GoodTask on the iPhone\n15:35 – Use the Reminders app for Simple Lists\n19:18 – Edit GoodTask Smart Lists\n20:46 – Create a New Smart List in GoodTask\n26:47 – GoodTask Downfall – Lots of Settings Options\n27:36 – Change the View of GoodTask Lists\n29:03 – Create Subtasks in GoodTask\n32:03 – GoodTask Templates\n33:03 – GoodTask Quick Actions\n37:39 – GoodTask Widgets\n41:21 – Question: GoodTask Durations\n44:53 – Rearranging Tasks in GoodTask\n49:40 – GoodTask Reviews\n50:18 – Search the GoodTask PDF with AI and PDF Pals\n57:44 – Wrap Up and Final Thoughts\n\nDownloads: \n\nDownload GoodTask from the Developer’s site\nDownload GoodTask from Setapp (along with over 240 other apps)\nDownload PDF Pals from Setapp (along with over 240 other apps)\n\n  DISCLAIMER: This video and description contains affiliate links\, which means that if you click on one of the product links\, I’ll receive a small commission.

SUMMARY:Ask Me Anything
DESCRIPTION:Only members can view the AMA. Are you a member? Log in to viewAMA. Not a member? Join today! \n \nAI-generated content. It may be inaccurate or misleading. \nCalendar Syncing and Merging Issues\nDan and Bruce discussed issues with calendar syncing on different devices. Bruce was experiencing inconsistent syncing between his iPhone and Mac\, and had multiple calendars that he wanted to merge into one. Dan guided Bruce through the process of merging calendars on a Mac\, explaining that calendars must be in iCloud to sync across devices. He also clarified that calendars created by the user can be merged\, but subscription calendars cannot. Chrys asked if it was possible to merge all calendars into one\, to which Dan responded that each calendar must be merged individually. \nResolving iPhone Message Sync Issues\nDan discussed the issue of messages not syncing with iPhones\, particularly with Brenda’s case. He explained that the problem lies in the settings of the Messages app\, specifically under the “Send and Receive” section. He guided the participants on how to enable the correct settings to ensure all devices receive messages. George had a similar issue\, and Dan suggested he check his settings and possibly sign out and sign back in to sync his devices. Steve also contributed to the discussion\, suggesting that George should check if both his cellular number and email address are assigned to all his devices. \nLithium-Ion Battery Charging and iPad Files\nDan discussed the best practices for charging lithium-ion batteries\, such as limiting the charge to 80% to prolong battery life. He also mentioned that the iPhone has an optimized battery charging feature that adjusts charging based on usage habits. George raised a question about syncing a Mac with a phone\, which Dan clarified. \nApple iCloud Backup System Challenges\nThe team discussed the complexities of Apple’s iCloud and backup systems. Dan explained that if a file is stored in iCloud\, it won’t be backed up\, but if it’s on an iPad and not in iCloud\, it will be backed up and stored in the cloud. However\, accessing individual files from the backup is not straightforward and requires a full restore of the device. The team also discussed the confusion between backups and archives\, with Dan emphasizing that backups are for insurance and should only be used when something goes wrong. The team also touched on the differences between running iPhone apps on a Mac and using the Finder for file management. \nManaging Download Folders and Pictures\nKevin and Dan discussed the issue of having two download folders on their devices. Dan explained that one folder is for downloads on the iPad\, while the other is for downloads on the iCloud. He suggested renaming these folders for easier identification. Kevin understood that he would need to check the iCloud folder for his downloads\, and Dan confirmed this. They also discussed the issue of downloaded pictures being placed in the photos app\, which sometimes doesn’t happen. \nApple Maps and Spark Mail Preferences\nIn the meeting\, Dan discussed his preference for Apple Maps over Google Maps\, highlighting its usefulness for finding information about local businesses. He also shared his use of Spark Mail\, a third-party email app\, which he finds more efficient than Apple’s built-in mail app due to its features like templates and AI. \nAOL Mail Service and Email Management\nKevin expressed concern about the future of AOL mail\, as he had been informed by a knowledgeable individual that AOL might shut down their mail service due to lack of incentive. Dan agreed that it could happen\, but also pointed out that it could happen with any email service. He suggested that Kevin could import his AOL mail into Gmail\, but warned that he would have to inform everyone of the change. George asked if he could turn off the junk mail feature in his iCloud mail\, but Dan suggested that it might still show even if turned off. \nWebsite Issues and Database Discussions\nDan also discussed his experience with various database systems\, including Filemaker\, Bento\, and Tabforms 5\, expressing his struggles with the latter. He offered to share his tutorials on Tabforms 5 to help others understand its features better. Dan\, Perrin\, and Steve discussed various database management tools and their functionalities.
